Radcliffe in Equus#0
Posted: 7/28/06 at 8:15pm
Okay, who's as excited as me to see Harry Potter in Equus? What a turn from his usual roles! Not to mention, he has to play stark naked at the ripe ole' age of 17! Does it make me a pedophile to be slightly intrigued?

If it does, that makes two of us. However, the Equus rumor's been going around since at least the end of last year and Radcliffe and WB's reps denied it then. I wonder if it's just a rehash of the same rumor now.

(I'd love to see him in it, though.)

My bad - it's been confirmed everywhere. I'm thrilled - hoping for a jaunt to London (and maybe Paris?) in the springtime then. Now I feel a bit like a lady Michael Jackson. But I can't wait.

Even if Radcliffe isn't capable of doing the role passably (and I'm sure he is), it'll still be quite the event! Sign me up for tickets pls. ^_^

Nudity and perversity?

Why is nudity always something we have to giggle about behind our hands..?

Very much doubt he'll be any good, but good luck to him for giving this hard part (for want of a better couple of words... "hark at me!" **snigger snigger**) a damn good go.

I saw this in the papers over here last week. But I've never seen Equus (It's before my time!), is there really that much nudity in it? The first papagraph of the newspaper article (which is the only bit I read) said that he would have to do a scene in which he would be 'visibly aroused by the horse'. Does that mean what I think it does? And how do they portray the horse, is it real?!
The rain we knew is a thing of the past -
deep-delving, dark, deliberate you would say
browsing on spire and bogland; but today
our sky-blue slates are steaming in the sun,
our yachts tinkling and dancing in the bay
like racehorses. We contemplate at last
shining windows, a future forbidden to no one.

In the past the horse was either a bench or a guy with a horse head on and the boy kind of "piggyback" rides the horse.

I cant see him being "physically aroused" as it sounds, isnt that illegal over there? (on stage anyway)

I don't think it's illegal, you could get away with anything if you call it art and tell people who don't like it that it's cutting edge culture.

I agree with you....but surely the "arroused" suggestion would be illegal....the nudity will be fine.....just a thought!

Ok, as much as i like Dan Radcliffe, he's not the most amazing actor. I think this is a very ambitious role to attempt because of this. When in Harry Potter, his acting isnt questioned because it is...Harry Potter! And most people love those films so he can get away with a lot. Saying that however, he is getting better as the films are progressing so who knows, he might give a surprising good performance in Equus! Only time will tell!

What, so you think him being naked would be fine, but if he had a hard-on it'd be illegal?

Thats funny.

I don't know about the acting, but I had the biggest crush on him when the first movie came out, so I'd definitely see it if given the chance.

I was recently talking to a producer/assistant friend of mine and his opinion was that the 'nude' scene wasn't a big deal, i learnt some pieces from equus for auditions etc and i feel the same way .... it wokrs in the film version... i dont see it as being entirely nesscesary .... there is a seen where his character makes a set of reigns and attaches them to himself..he then proceeds to whip himself ... i found this scene far more shocking than any nudity ... anyway ... theres no use speculating ... we will all just have to go along and see it!
