Don't get why they are bringing this in. Doesnt pack them in on Broadway, no idea why its stil running there. Frequently does less than 50% capacity.

Jersey Boys has this market and even struggles

Million Dollar Quartet - Noel Coward

The Broadway musical 'Million Dollar Quartet', which tells the story of the night in 1956 when Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins and Jerry Lee Lewis came together to make music and ended up making history is coming to London!

Noel Coward Theatre, London.
Opening 28th Feb 2011.
Previews from 8th Feb 2011
Booking to 1st Oct 2011.

Currently playing on Broadway and in Chicago, 'Million Dollar Quartet' is inspired by the actual event that took place on 4 December 1956 at Sun Records in Memphis and features over 20 of the greatest rock íní roll, gospel, R&B and country hits.

The musical has book by Colin Escott and Floyd Mutrux, originally conceived by Floyd Mutrux.

Casting to be announced shortly.

Directed by Eric Schaeffer.
Designed by Derek McLane.
Musical arrangements and supervision Chuck Mead

Produced in London by Relevant Theatricals, John Cossette Productions, American Pop Anthology, John Gore, Thomas B. McGrath, James L. Nederlander, Joseph Smith and Michael McCabe.

The legendary meeting was masterminded by Sun Recordsí founder Sam Phillips, who discovered all four of the musicians, and brought Elvis Presley (and his then girlfriend) back to the recording studio that launched him to stardom. Together with Sun Records' fast-rising new superstar Johnny Cash and Carl Perkins, who was still chasing his next big hit after writing and recording Blue Suede Shoes, the fourth member of this impromptu "quartet" was Phillips' latest signing, Jerry Lee Lewis.

They were going to the Alwdych until few weeks back when Dirty Dancing decided to extend. Apparently Nederlander has a bigger show to open there in Autumn 2011 now...

MDQ just looks like Buddy/That'll be The day/Great Balls of Fire/Jailhouse Rock merged.

I'll play devil's advocate. I think it might do better in the West End than on Broadway. From my admittedly superficial perspective it feels like the appetite for vintage rock and roll might be a little more robust here.

True, but the market here is saturated in a way Broadway isn't or hasn't been.

Its been 55-65% capacity playing since it opened!

Must be cheap to run.

I dont usually say this, but I hope it flops.

AnythingGoes2, capacity means nothing. How much money they are making does. For example, Rent played to 55 per cent capacity for a good number of years. That was until they realized that they couldn't go much further with that and that the money that they were making from that didn't justify them continuing at The Nederlander so they closed it.

Tickets on sale. Gallery seats on £10/£5 during previews which is an amazing price for a West End musical. Think I am gonna go for the front row day seats for this one though :).
