The much troubled Hilton Theatre on New Yorks 42nd St has a new name as of Aug 9th 2010.

The Foxwoods Theatre.

The venue will be a joint venture between Live Nation and U.S casino operators, Foxwoods Casinos.
The first production is still expected to be the much hyped new musical 'Spiderman'.

I believe you're thinking of Garth Drabinsky's company, Livent, which went under because of a major fraud case - the main reason why the original production of Ragtime (produced by Livent) had to close on Broadway. Strangely Ragtime played at the Ford Centre, which became the Hilton and now the Foxwoods.

No I mean because Live Nation have recently sold all their theatres in the UK, I thought they went under.

Or was that just the UK part?

Or are they different companies?

I think it was a reorganization of how they worked?
When i get more info I'll post.

Yet another wonderfully imaginative name for a Broadway theatre!

Does it mean they'll have slot machines in the foyer so patrons can gamble on the way in? lol

No, but you could rent out the entire lobby for a mere US$4,000 and do whatever you please!

Press release from Foxwoods.

'Showcasing the Foxwoods brand in such a prominent location in New York City provides us with a signature opportunity to further extend our reach into the most coveted media market in the world', stated Robert Victoria, chief marketing officer for Foxwoods and MGM Grand at Foxwoods.
'As the home to Spider-Man: Turn off the Dark, the new Foxwoods Theatre presents Foxwoods and MGM Grand at Foxwoods with a tremendous opportunity to capitalize on the buzz, excitement, and exposure surrounding the most anticipated Broadway production of all time, and the tremendous value we receive from the productionís advertising campaign made this deal a no-brainer. We are excited to partner with Live Nation on yet another program that enables us to reach one of our core audiences in such a unique and compelling manner'.

Its hilarious that they are getting excited about hosting 'Spiderman'.
There's a saying in the gambling world- 'The house always wins!'- well, maybe not on this gamble!

I'm guessing the naming rights expired so they has to find a new sponsor.

Live Nation sold most if not all their US theatres to Key Brand/Broadway Across America but I'm surprised they kept the Hilton, I'm sure the Shuberts, Nederlanders and Jujacym would be happy to have it and make better use of it.

I believe The Winter Garden Theatre was called The Cadiliac Winter Garden Theatre for a few years before reverting back to the old name. Thank goodness we don't have a similar thing here!

Indeed very tacky, The Hilton used to be called 'The Ford Centre For The Performing Arts'.

I have always maintained 'Spiderman - Turn On The Bed Side Lamp' would never of played The Hilton, now I am right.
