Love him or hate him, Michael Riedel's information is usually right.

OK OK Hold on, lets step back a second.
Its not confirmed it only says sources predict.
I guess that means its as good as gone.
I was looking at the figures yesterday and I took a gulp when I saw 66% - that aint good.
The way Broadway is run really has gotta get a make over.

He's a **** anyway, you must remember how he put the daggers into the show months before it even got to New York. It was obviously the show he chose to use his little voodoo doll on this year just like he has in seasons past, 'Grey Gardens' for example!
Oh well, I loved it the times I saw it in LA and New York.

Labor Day weekend is the weekend of 5th and 6th of September, with I believe the 7th being actual Labor Day.

Very sad if this is the case, as although no, it isn't brilliant theatre, it's a lot better than other stuff that is out there and I loved it.

Isnt it the 1st week of Sept

This is hardly shocking news, the figures have been less than impressive for awhile, i think the bad reviews and the Tony snub killed the show dead.

It could have worked there but Broadway and its audiences are so fickle. The way that place is run etc is nothing short of pathetic.
One review kills a show -come on!

I've longed for a 9 to 5 musical for years, but I have to agree with Reidel- it was a workmanlike adaptation- the show doesn't seem to take flight. I blame Mantello- a seriously over-rated director, if you ask me.

There was that very interesting article (Variety?) that also pointed out that a show is in trouble when the opening number is the big number. It's downhill from there.

Im sorry Mamma i know your a fan of the show but this is one show which has so many things working against it i dont think this is down to fickle audiences.

Word of mouth for the show has not been great, even in previews people were saying it had major problems, problems they chose not to address.
On top of that it was not one bad review, none of the reviews for the show were flat out raves, most were mixed to negative, hell even the Tony awards snubbed it and they nominate rubbish most of the time.

The score for 9 to 5 is its biggest problem, its one sound a like song after another with only 2 or 3 decent songs. Some of the replacment songs between its Out Of Town and Broadway were big mistakes (Change It) and some songs that should have gone were left alone.

The 3 women are on fire and are working great with what little they have. Janney (despite her singing) fairs the best delivering her lines with comic genius.

The book whilst pepperd with some great moments also needed a bit more work.

The show just was not ready for NY critics and with Broadway shows relying on good word of mouth and good reviews it was always gonna struggle.

I have to say with the names attached (Janney, Parton, 9 to 5) im shocked its doing so badly, but hey i guess thats just how it goes.

Is it a bad show? No, is it a good show, No
Its a fun show with a lot of flaws
It deserved a longer run and its sad people have not given it more of a chance, it might help more if they actually advertised the show

The Marquis has become the Broadway theatre of flops with two flops two years running, the last successful show there in terms of recouping was The Drowsy Chaperone but it hasn't had a long running show since Me and My Girl.

Will be interesting what will go in next, I would say Catch Me If You Can, The First Wives Club or perhaps Sister Act.

I got my ticket Saturday night at 7pm with a 40% discount, this told me everything I wanted to know on how well it is doing.

The story is not terrible......it is just awful, however the songs were fair to good, casting very good and staging was good. the story came across as very cheesy.
