Lev Govorovski Will Direct DANDELIONS AND POPPY at The Hope Theatre
Hosanna Johnson writes and stars alongside Alice Mae Walker, with Hannah Currie producing at the All The Flowers Festival.
Stage Debut Award nominee Lev Govorovski has been announced as the director of Hosanna Johnson's new play Dandelions and Poppy, which will run at The Hope Theatre from 1-3 September as part of the venue's new writing season.
Written by Johnson, who also stars in the production, Dandelions and Poppy is an intimate new play exploring faith, queerness, family and friendship. Johnson will perform alongside Alice Mae Walker (Grantchester, Doc Martin, Midas Man), with the production produced by Hannah Currie.
In addition to directing, Govorovski will also serve as the production's designer, continuing his multidisciplinary approach to theatre-making.
Speaking about the production, Govorovski said, "Hosanna writes like no one else I know, her style is unequivocally unique and honest. As both director and designer, I'm excited to create a world that allows these performances to shine while embracing the play's quiet power. The Hope Theatre has an incredible reputation for championing new voices, and it's a privilege to be bringing this piece to audiences as part of the Autumn Season."
Johnson said, "I'm so excited to be working with Lev on Dandelions and Poppy. His instinct for storytelling, collaborative approach and visual imagination made him the perfect person to bring this play to life. It's been a joy watching the script evolve through rehearsals, and I can't wait to share it with audiences."
The announcement follows a landmark year for Govorovski, who recently received a Stage Debut Award nomination for his work on RON at Riverside Studios. The critically acclaimed production drew praise for its theatrical ambition and inventive visual language. The nomination further establishes Govorovski as one of a new generation of theatre-makers working across directing, design and performance.
Dandelions and Poppy runs at The Hope Theatre from 1-3 September as part of All The Flowers Festival, an annual celebration of new writing showcasing emerging voices and original stories.
