Expansion Records Launches New Imprint with Debut Single by Rochelle Sherona
Releasing on July 1, Break The Rules serves as the first taste of the upcoming original British musical Soul Mates, penned by writer and composer David Kent.
Break The Rules, a new single from West End performer Rochelle Sherona (The Lion King), marks the first release from Expansion Select, a new imprint from UK independent soul label Expansion Records. The new venture offers a place for soul music that crosses over into sub-genres as well as theatrical projects.
"There is so much incredible music that shares our passion for soul but sits just outside the core Expansion sound," says Ralph Tee of Expansion. "Expansion Records Select gives these projects the spotlight they deserve.
Releasing on July 1, Break The Rules serves as the first taste of the upcoming original British musical Soul Mates, penned by writer and composer David Kent. Set against the backdrop of the 1980s Essex Soul scene, the single aims to capture the "new old" sound of 1987 as spun at clubs like Lacy Lady and the Ilford Palais. The musical follows the journey of three aspiring stars from the heart of Essex.
