Purpose, written by Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winner Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, is a family drama about faith, inheritance, and long-held secrets. The play centers on the Jaspers, a Black political dynasty of civil rights leaders, pastors, and congressmen who have long anchored Black American life. When the youngest son, Naz, returns home with an unexpected guest, long-buried resentments boil over, fracturing the family's foundation. Purpose runs at Arena Stage's Fichandler Stage February 5 through March 28, 2027.
