Since 1988, the Ensemble has experimented within the Neo-Futurist aesthetic and will soon reach the milestone of creating 10,000 original plays, having always stayed true to and experimented within the Neo-Futurist aesthetic. The Infinite Wrench is a mechanism that unleashes a barrage of these two-minute plays for a live audience. Each week, these short blasts of theater offer something different for that audience-some are funny, others profound. Some are elegant, disgusting, topical, irrelevant, terrifying or put to song. Each piece is truthful and tackles the here-and-now, inspired by the lived experiences of the performers who write the work themselves. The Infinite Wrench is The Neo-Futurists' ongoing and ever-changing attempt to shift the conventions of live performance and speak to the present audience, including those unreached or unmoved by other types of theater. Created after a month of previews that investigated an array of elements and structures around the plays, The Neo-Futurists continue to collaborate with the New York Neo-Futurists and San Francisco Neo-Futurists on the best way to present short theater with urgency and spontaneity.

The company of writer-director-performers includes Kurt Chiang, Ida Cuttler, Trevor Dawkins, Tif Harrison, Nick Hart, Dan Kerr-Hobert, Jeewon Kim, Lily Mooney, Kirsten Riiber, Leah Urzendowski and Malic White.

ABOUT THE NEO-FUTURISTS

The Neo-Futurists are a collective of writer-director-performers creating theater that is fusion of sport, poetry and living-newspaper. From humble beginnings as the first late-night theater production in Chicago, they launched what became Chicago's longest running show and today sustain multifaceted programs such as Neo-Access, The Kitchen (a micro-festival on art and performance), Prime Time, Neo-Lab and The Infinite Wrench, the ongoing late night show running 50 weekends every year.
