Video: Ralph Rugoff Tours ANISH KAPOOR Exhibition at Hayward Gallery

Ralph Rugoff walks through Kapoor's largest sculpture yet and several other major works.

Southbank Centre has shared a video titled 'The Art of Bending Reality,' featuring Hayward Gallery Director Ralph Rugoff giving a personal tour through THE ART OF BENDING REALITY, the gallery's current exhibition of work by artist Anish Kapoor. In the video, Rugoff describes Kapoor as an artist who 'is constantly challenging our conventional ways of seeing things,' guiding viewers through several of the show's large-scale sculptures.

The tour opens with All of Nothing (2026), described as the largest sculpture ever presented at Hayward Gallery, with only portions visible at any one time to preserve what Rugoff calls a sense of mystery. Other works featured include Mount Moriah (2022), a piece Rugoff frames as sombre yet playful, and Ha Makom (2026), a new installation coated in red pigment that sets up a tension between landscape and architecture. The tour also covers two series: Ritual Expiation (2025-2026), visceral pieces suggesting the remains of a ritual sacrifice, and Descent into Limbo (1992), which Kapoor has described as 'not an empty hole but a hole filled with darkness.'

The tour concludes outside the gallery at Tsunami (2025), a curved sculpture that reflects its surroundings in unpredictable ways, continuing what Rugoff frames as Kapoor's ongoing interest in complicating the idea that seeing is believing.

THE ART OF BENDING REALITY is on view at Hayward Gallery through October 18, 2026.
