Gaslight, also recognized as Angel Street in the United States of America written in 1938 by PatRick Hamilton, remains one of Broadway's record-setting non-musicals and is considered one of the great classics of the mystery genre. Gaslight is best known for its 1944 film adaptation of the play starring Ingrid Bergman, Joseph Cotton and Angela Lansbury in her on-screen debut.

"I am truly honoured to have Christopher Newton join us this season" staTed Craig Hall, Artistic Director. "I was working as Mr. Newton's assistant on a production at the Shaw Festival when Vertigo Theatre was searching for an Artistic Director and he encouraged me to apply. Many seasons of programming mysteries for the Shaw Festival made Christopher a self-professed 'super fan' of the genre (and of Gaslight in particular), so I can't wait to see his take on PatRick Hamilton's classic thriller."

Gaslight explores the life of Mr. & Mrs. Jack Manningham. It is evident from the start of the play that Mrs. Manningham's husband has complete control over his wife, slowly convincing her through a complicated web of deception that she is delusional and falling into madness. The arrival of a former police detective, reassures her that she is far from mad and is the victim of a ruthless murderer.

PatRick Hamilton's spine-chilling thrilling stars Anna Cummer (Mrs. Manningham), Patrick McManus (Mr. Manningham), Arielle Rombough (Nancy), Elizabeth Stepkowski Tarhan (Elizabeth), Christopher Hunt (Rough) and James Noonan (Police Officer).

Gaslight is directed by Christopher Newton, Set and Lighting Design Narda McCarroll, Costume Design Deitra Kalyn, Sound Design Sam Hindle, Stage Manager Ailsa Birnie and Assistant Stage Manager Ruby Dawn Eustaquio.

Vertigo Mystery Theatre's presentation of Gaslight opens tonight, January 31 and continues through to February 24.
