The Irish Cultural Centre in London will present the UK debut of Making A Show of Myself, written and performed by Mary Kate O'Flanagan and directed by Will O'Connell.

Fresh from a sold-out four-week Off-Broadway run at the Irish Repertory Theatre in New York, the show arrives in Hammersmith following acclaimed runs in Ireland, Edinburgh Fringe, and the United States, where it built a strong word-of-mouth reputation and critical praise.

The production has now been nominated for the Outstanding Solo Performance Award at the 2026 New York Outer Critics Circle Awards, placing O'Flanagan alongside internationally recognised performers including Daniel Radcliffe, Jean Smart and Sean Hayes. This marks a significant moment for the artist, who began her live storytelling career in Ireland and has since become the only Grand Slam Champion Storyteller at The Moth on two continents.

About the Show

Making A Show of Myself is rooted in The Irish Tradition of seanchas-live storytelling as a shared cultural act. Through six true-life stories, O'Flanagan explores how storytelling shapes identity, builds connection, and offers perspective in uncertain times.

With humour, warmth and emotional precision, the show invites audiences into a deeply human experience of memory, meaning and resilience. From the opening moments, audiences are placed in the hands of a performer described as a "virtuoso storyteller."

Mary Kate O'Flanagan

Mary Kate O'Flanagan is a writer and story consultant for film and television. She discovered her talent for live storytelling after winning The Moth Story Slam in Dublin, going on to become a multi-time winner across Ireland and the United States.

One of her stories, Carry Him Shoulder High, went viral with over 3.2 million views in 48 hours and has been featured on The Moth Radio Hour on PBS.

Making A Show of Myself was developed after filmmaker and theatre-maker Will O'Connell saw her viral storytelling work and collaborated with her to bring it to the stage.

The show sold out its debut Irish tour (2024-2025), became a standout success at the Edinburgh Fringe (2025), and went on to a sold-out Off-Broadway run in early 2026.

Performances will take place at the Irish Cultural Centre, Hammersmith, London from  22-23 May 2026. Tickets: £20 / £18 concession.
