Cast Set For THE SIGNALMAN at Pleasure Dome Theatre
Pleasure Dome Theatre's production features Ben Fensome and is adapted by Jonathan Holloway.
Pleasure Dome Theatre will present Charles Dickens' supernatural thriller- The Signalman, adapted by Jonathan Holloway and directed by Scott Le Crass. The company is celebrating 10 years of theatre-making at the Valley and beyond with this South West reimagining using physical theatre and original music, and drawing on the impact of the infamous Beeching cuts.
The production explores themes of mental health and rural isolation and plays at the Valley before steaming across Somerset and Devon, visiting a selection of Heritage Railways, Arts Venues, Museums and of course, the iconic Landmark Theatre.
Gerald Dickens, great-great-grandson to the author Charles Dickens, known for his world tours of one-person performances of Dickens' great works, leads the cast as The Signalman, and Ben Fensome returns to the company after touring nationally as Mr Collins/Mr Wickam in Pride and Prejudice (Octagon Theatre, Stephen Joseph Theatre, Theatre by the Lake, Hull Truck and Theatre Clwd.) Joining the ensemble are Charlotte Ellen as Mrs Carter, whose credits include Phyllis in The [Fletton] Railway Children (Eastern Angles) and Princess Fenella in The Princess and The Frog (Nottingham Playhouse), with Nayomie James, who makes her fourth appearance with the company but has more recently been working with Paines Plough on their Open Writers programme. Young artists Freya Warren Brand, currently training in London, and Molly Gooch Seasons (The Landmark) complete the line-up along with Helena Payne, Pleasure Dome's Artistic Director and Producer, who returns to theatre after South West tours as Carmen in Carmen (Reduced Opera Company) and Cesare in CESARE (Pleasure Dome and Somerset Opera.)
Scott Le Crass, Associate Artist of the company, returns to direct his 11th production, ably supported by Hugo Dodsworth as Lighting Designer, together with the team at the Landmark. This is a theatrical experience not to be missed!
The Signalman runs at the Valley of Rocks from the 17th to the 25th of July, "Exmoor's answer to the Minack," before touring a choice selection of rail-associated site-specific venues.
