L'Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences ha annunciato le shortlist in 12 categorie per la 98ª edizione degli Academy Awards. Questi film sono stati riconosciuti dagli elettori nei turni preliminari di votazione, che verranno ristretti quando la votazione finale avrà luogo a gennaio.
Le categorie sono Cortometraggio Animato, Casting, Fotografia, Documentario Lungometraggio, Documentario Cortometraggio, Film Internazionale, Cortometraggio Live Action, Trucco e Parrucco, Musica (Colonna Sonora Originale), Musica (Canzone Originale), Suono e Effetti Speciali.
Wicked: For Good ha fatto parte della shortlist per Casting, Fotografia, Trucco e Parrucco, Colonna Sonora Originale, Canzone Originale (due volte), Suono e Effetti Speciali. Queste erano tutte le categorie in cui il film era ammissibile. Il primo film ha ricevuto 10 nomination totali agli Oscar del 2025, vincendo Miglior Design dei Costumi e Miglior Scenografia.
Altri titoli notevoli in shortlist includono Hamnet, Song Sung Blue, Frankenstein, Sinners e One Battle After Another.
Le votazioni per le nomination iniziano lunedì 12 gennaio 2026 e si concludono venerdì 16 gennaio 2026. Le nomination per la 98ª edizione degli Academy Awards saranno annunciate giovedì 22 gennaio 2026. La 98ª edizione degli Oscar si terrà domenica 15 marzo 2026 al Dolby Theatre di Ovation Hollywood e sarà trasmessa in diretta su ABC e in più di 200 territori in tutto il mondo.
Verranno assegnate ventiquattro categorie alla 98ª edizione degli Oscar. Ogni categoria ha cinque candidati, ad eccezione del Miglior Film, che ne ha 10. Le nomination per il Miglior Film sono determinate dai membri ammissibili di tutti i 19 rami dell'Academy.
