Opera Atelier specializes in 17th- and 18th-century works, and Co-Artistic Directors Marshall Pynkoski and Jeannette Lajeunesse Zingg are highly adept at bringing them to life with fidelity to the conventions of the time. Impressively, they manage to do this in a way that never feels tone deaf to mo…
Prophetess is a rabbit hole kind of tale, one that's a chaotic descent into madness. Playing now at the Tarragon Theatre until November 1 2026, this dynamic production is written by Ho Ka Kei (Jeff Ho) and directed/dramaturged by Mike Payette. Prophetess is the kind of show that is ripe for theatre …

WALDEN is more successful in its exploration of family dynamics than as a work of speculative fiction. However, Icarus Theatre’s production at The Theatre Centre, directed by Erik Richards, still takes off for an engaging 90 minutes of theatre.…
Canadian Opera Company’s season opener La Traviata pulls out all the stops and sets an extremely high bar for the rest of its 26-27 offerings. My companion has been coming to the opera with me for many years, and she was blown away, proclaiming this as one of her all-time faves. “A triumph,” s…
Spring Awakening at Soulpepper Theatre is a well-executed and expertly-crafted sensory delight (though the dark themes this play tackles are far from delightful) that offers an intense, almost cinematic theatre-going experience.…
The Shaw Festival seems to be having a small tribute festival to Shaffer brothers as it is presenting two of their known pieces this season. The dark mystery SLEUTH by Anthony Shaffer is now playing to great acclaim at the Court House Theatre and more recently and the comic drama AMADEUS by Sir Pe…
An embarrassment of artistic riches has yet again convened in Niagara on the Lake for this season’s Shaw Festival. Two very different plays are given world class productions sharing many of the same talents. Last week I attended Anthony Shaffer’s psychological thriller SLEUTH at the intima…
