"OTHELLO- Bard's Bus Tour, Driftwood Theatre Group
For its 23rd annual Bard’s Bus Tour, Driftwood Theatre presents Othello.? ?William Shakespeare’s searing tale of race, jealousy, and revenge is set against the backdrop of recent history when, in 1974, Canadian peacekeepers are caught in a life or death struggle on the small island of Cyprus. Proud and powerful Othello has fought against systemic barriers and racism in order to gain his freedom, his position, and his wife. But in the shadow of this nobleman lies the jealousy and rage which will prove to be his undoing.
All performances of Othello are preceded by The Cyprus Project. Come early to listen to the extraordinary stories of people from all over the world, in their own words, who experienced the 1974 war in Cyprus; shedding light on the personal consequences of international conflicts, as well as Canada’s important role as peacekeepers engaged in this, one of the longest overseas missions in our country’s history.
