La Reine-garçon is a new opera by Canadian composer Julien Bilodeau and librettist Michel Marc Bouchard, directed by Angela Konrad. This production marks the Canadian Opera Company's first co-commission with Opéra de Montréal, featuring an entirely Canadian cast. The story centers on Queen Christine of Sweden navigating the conflicts between faith, knowledge, love, and duty in the 17th century. Sopranos Kirsten MacKinnon and Kirsten LeBlanc portray Queen Christine, while tenor Owen McCausland plays her mentor René Descartes and bass-baritone Philippe Sly takes on the role of her suitor, Count Karl.
