West Virginia Public Theatre (WVPT) is collaborating with New York City composers, country music artist Tracy Lawrence, and West Virginia author Denise Giardina to develop Storming Heaven: The Musical. Their work will conclude with a staged reading of the musical at 7:30pm today, January 19 in the Gladys G. Davis Theatre (WVU Creative Arts Center) in Morgantown. This is a non-ticketed event, free, and open to the public.

Storming Heaven, the acclaimed novel by West Virginia based writer Denise Giardina released in 1987, is being made into a musical and will have a pre-Broadway staged reading in Morganton, WV thanks to a collaboration with the West Virginia Public Theatre (WVPT).

Michael V. Gazzo's play premiered on Broadway in 1955, and was adapted into a popular film starring Don Murray and Eva Marie Saint in 1968. Considered shocking and groundbreaking at the time in its unflinching portrayal of issues such as veteran health care scandals and opioid abuse, this classic drama seems even more relevant today.

Academy Award and GRAMMY winning artist Melissa Etheridge will take the stage for the Melissa Etheridge: This Is M.E. U.S. tour to perform songs from her new album, This is M.E., which is being released by ME Records on September 30. She will also be singing some of her greatest hits like 'Come to My Window', 'I'm The Only One' and 'I Want to Come Over'. The tour will include a performance in Mesa Arts Center's Ikeda Theater on Tuesday, December 9 at 7:30 p.m.
