BWW Previews: NEW THEATRE COMPANY PJMA DEBUTS WITH THOUGHT-PROVOKING MUSICAL BARE: A POP OPERA Hosted at Carrollwood Players Theatre

New theatre company, PJMA Theater Productions debuts its inaugural season with the provocative musical Bare: A Pop Opera on September 7 through 22, hosted at Carrollwood Players Theatre. The theater company plans to finish the season in 2019 with Carrie The Musical and another musical, to be selected.

Ryan Roberge, theater founder and director said, "PJMA is proud to represent a diverse group of people with innovative works. We are a semi-professional theater company that is creating theatre performances that not only entertain but inspire and challenge our audience."

PJMA Theater Productions' goal is to tell timely and important stories that make its audience think, while at the same time, providing a rich collaborative theatre performance experience for its actors and crew.

Musically directed by Luke Benedict, Bare: A Pop Opera stars recognized actors and actresses from throughout the Tampa Bay community and professional theatre landscape.

Drew Eberhard, Richard Cubi, Skyler Rosenthal, Trevor Salmon, Joel Ferrer, Chris Koki Montanez, Deborah Devora, Athena Schorsch, Maggie Stickle Jenkins, Madison Claire Rice, Emma Beekman, Athena Tootie Jolee Romanski, Jason Mann, and Topher Warren auditioned and were selected to launch the mature-themed production.

"BARE is important because it is about love and acceptance. The show sends a strong message about being true to yourself and loving yourself for your truth," said actress Madison.

Bare: A Pop Opera tells the story of a group of Catholic high school seniors facing issues of sexuality and personal identity. At a prestigious Catholic school, Peter and Jason fall in love. In their senior year, they test the limits of their secret relationship. Peter wants to come out to the world, while Jason, wary of losing family and friends, wants to keep his sexuality hidden a little longer. As the attempt to come to terms with who they versus who the world thinks they should be, they search for answers to reconcile their desires with their church's teachings and their family and friend's expectations.

"We think Bare is the perfect opportunity to start our conversation. We are grateful that Carrollwood Players believes in us and has given us a place to deliver this incredible performance," he said. "I want the audience to be able to reflect on the world we live in through the eyes of these characters and to use the show to see how far we've come and how much progress still needs to be made.

We are proud to bring the community some of the best talent in Tampa Bay, coupled with shows that aren't performed every day," said Ryan. "I want the audience to walk away with the message it ok to be what you are and you don't have to hide from it. This show is breathtaking and with this amazing cast and crew, I don't think they will disappoint you."

PJMA Theatre Productions' Bare: A Pop Opera is Fridays and Saturdays 11pm and Sundays 7pm, on September 7-22 at Carrollwood Players Theatre, 4333 Gunn Highway Tickets are $27 adult and $24 student.
