A Czar is Born at Eternity Playhouse
Dates: 9/9/2025 - 9/13/2025 New Play
📍 Theatre: Eternity Playhouse
39 Burton St
Sydney,
In this anarchic one-hour comedy about capitalism (and literature) run amok, a publishing magnate attempts to one-up his rival by putting on a book tour for a new bestseller – from the acclaimed and mysterious FRANCOIS DUCHAMP — despite Duchamp’s refusal to participate.
Chaos ensues with songs, ambassadors, identity theft and litigation in a musical comedy worthy of Mel Brooks. Written and directed by Laurence Rosier Staines (Griffin Award finalist 2023), A CZAR IS BORN first premiered in 2010 and is back by both popular demand and financial necessity.
Featuring Courtney Bell, Rupert Bevan, Darcy Brown, Lucinda Jurd, Dominique Purdue & Luke Visentin with a four-piece band for three nights only at the Sydney Fringe’s Off-Broadway Hub: the Eternity Playhouse.
"Outlandish, delightful, enraging" –Honi Soit "Beyond hilarious" –The Brag (that’s how long ago the first production was) "Society has no choice but to exalt this show." –A Czar is Born
