Eva Rydberg and Claes Malmberg meet - for the last time
A century-old farce classic - with newly written songs, a hundred years younger.
"The Hero from Öresund" will be Eva Rydberg's finale at Fredriksdalsteatern.
Premiere June 12.

Eva Rydberg and Claes Malmberg unite in a summer farce - again. But now for the last time. The seasoned author couple Franz Arnold and Ernst Bach wrote "The Hero from Öresund" (Der kühne Schwimmer) exactly a hundred years ago in 1926. The farce has since been performed under different names in both Sweden and abroad. For the first time, the farce is now being performed with music that is a hundred years younger. Ten newly written songs by Niklas Holtne, P-O Nilsson and Anders Aldgård are included in the performance.

Director Anders Aldgård and screenwriter Niklas Holtne have set the story in Helsingborg in 1966. The character Hilding Blomgren, played by Claes Malmberg, is Helsingborg's great hero after saving a woman from drowning. To show her personal gratitude, the woman (Matildhe Simonsen Hebrand) has decided to marry her lifesaver. The cheerful seed merchant (Malmberg) is about to get married. His mistress Ester (Eva Rydberg) of many years is both curious, nervous and lively about what awaits. But with a fox behind each ear. The seed merchant's Best Friend, the town's bookseller (Fredrik Dolk), is so absent-minded that everyone's lies and secrets eventually lead to misunderstandings and complications. The tentative love between the officiant (!) (Robert Rydberg) and the seed merchant's daughter (Birgitta Rydberg) contributes to both misunderstandings and humor. Claes Malmberg's character is exuberant and overjoyed, downright lyrical, when the marriage is initially imminent. But as it progresses, worries creep in.

Not only has Arnold & Bach's classic comedy of confusion ended up in Helsingborg. Also
surrounding towns such as Viken, Gantofta and Ystad get a kick out of it. The Summer Plays
are an established Helsingborg tradition with large audiences, since their start at Fredriksdalsteatern in 1932.

Eva is now presenting her last own summer play since 1994. Premiere June 12, final August 16.

"Hjälten från Öresund" is presented by Eva Rydberg, as the last of her summer farces in Helsingborg. The first was Den tappre soldaten Bom in 1994, but the year before Eva participated in Nils Poppe's final farce "Bröderna Östermans" (The Öster Brothers' huskors). Directed by Anders Aldgård. Screenplay adapted by Niklas Holtne.
