The Desert Song is an operetta with music by Sigmund Romberg and book and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, Otto Harbach and Frank Mandel. Winter Opera always strives to please our audiences and The Desert Song is the most requested operetta since we started in 2008 and we wanted to give our audiences an opportunity to see the production once again. The Desert Song was one of the most frequently performed operettas at the St. Louis MUNY Opera starting in the early 1920's. For this entirely new production, Director Jon Truitt and Playwright David Little have worked to create a new version of the musical that integrates the multiple popular versions seen on stage and screen, preserves the beautiful music, and updates some of the dialogue to speak to a modern audience while still maintaining the wonderful romantic storyline that has been loved by St. Louis audiences for so many years.
