CHOREOGRAPHY SHOWCAST to Spotlight Original Dance Works by UofSC Students ImageOriginal works by University of SC dance students will be in the spotlight as the UofSC Dance Program presents the Student Choreography Showcase April 27-28 at Drayton Hall Theatre.

Show times are 7pm on April 27 and 2pm on April 28. Tickets are $15 for students, $20 for USC Faculty/Staff, Military and Seniors, and $22 for the general public, and can be purchased online at dance.sc.edu, by phone at 803-777-2551, or in person at the Longstreet Theatre box office, located at 1300 Greene St. Physical box office hours are 12:30pm - 5:30pm, Monday through Friday. Drayton Hall Theatre is located at 1214 College St., across from the historic UofSC Horseshoe.

Under the direction of dance instructor Cindy Flach, the concert will feature five diverse works from student choreographers who presented original choreography for the Fall 2017 Showcase. These students have either further refined their choreography or, in some cases, developed new works for the Spring Showcase.

Participating choreographers are Dance Performance and Choreography majors Jacqueline Benthall, Caroline Beverly, Emma Morris, and Imani Trotman, as well as Michael Mcmanus, a History major minoring in Dance.

McManus' work entitled Recrudescence, which he premiered at the Fall 2017 showcase, was selected in February to represent the University of SC at the Southeast Regional Conference of the American College Dance Association, where it was praised for its movement quality and vision.

McManus will present a new piece for the Spring Showcase entitled Youthful Bliss, which he says is in some ways a continuation of his previous work. The piece "offers the audience a mix of popular music, contemporary rhythms, hip-hop interpretations, and a complement of sexuality enhanced by the addition of heels," says McManus. "My greatest wish is that the music and movement remind the audience of their very first encounter with music and how that encounter made them feel."
