South Bend Civic Theatre in association with LampkinMagic productions presents a special staged reading of an original play by local playwright Matt Benedict, A False Lie, tonight, February 19, at 7:30 PM, at the Firehouse Theatre, 701 N. Portage Ave. in South Bend.
The story begins on an otherwise ordinary, early fall day on Cape Cod, two strangers meet, both attempting to escape their lives - she a radical mastectomy and disintegrating relationship, he a day-old divorce precipitated by a sudden miscarriage. After a frosty introduction, over the course of the ensuing day, they slowly reveal to each other their physical and psychological scars, and through this joint revelatory act, each embraces the "false lie", or "truth", ignored. Questions remain however: Will they journey back to the living with these "new truths" in hand? And...will they journey together? At times comic, wrenching, combative, and touching, A False Lie explores how trust cultivates truth, and truth triggers redemption.
David Chudzynski directs Michael Coffee, Gary Oesch, Abbey Platt, Crystal Ryan, Tim Shaw, and Sam Villagro-Stanton in this new work.
