HEDY! THE LIFE & INVENTIONS OF HEDY LAMARR, an award-winning and critically-acclaimed solo show from New York, will make its South African debut at the Alexander Bar, Café and Theatre this October. Written and performed by Heather Massie, the 75-minute play is directed by Matthew Kalil in Cape Town and Blake Walton in New York, with artistic consultation from Walton and Leslie Kincaid Burby.

Hedy Lamarr, the glamorous siren of the silver screen, was more than the most beautiful woman in the world. She invented frequency hopping and spread spectrum technology, making the world of wireless communication tick. From Austria to Hollywood, through ecstasy and intrigue, from torpedoes in WWII to the cell phone in your pocket, she was - and is - there.

The production team for HEDY! THE LIFE & INVENTIONS OF HEDY LAMARR include Jim Marlowe and Charles Marlowe on production design and Jacob Subotnick on sound design, with technical assistance from Dan Leary. Page Clements serves as the dialect coach for the production.

HEDY! THE LIFE & INVENTIONS OF HEDY LAMARR runs at the Alexander Upstairs from 12 - 14 October at 21:00 nightly. Tickets are available from the Alexander Bar website, with seats costing R100 if booked and prepaid online or R120 if paid on collection at the bar. For telephone enquiries, call 021 300 1652. The Alexander Bar, Café and Theatre is situated at 76 Strand Street in the Cape Town city centre and can be followed on Facebook and Twitter.
