On October 30, 2003, the institution of what we call American Musical theatre would never be the same. This highly anticipated musical hit Broadway running with box office success and two stars top billed. The wickedly talented Idina Menzel (Elphaba) and Kristin Chenoweth (Galinda) were the talks of the town in Stephen Schwartz's new musical. The magical question is, how do you keep a musical relevant and box office worthy in this day and age when rapping forefathers capture the masses? My answer is, if it ain't broke, then don't fix it. This show evolves in every way, from the music, movement, costume and make-up design we are taken on a magical journey.

Lara Foot's latest play, THE INCONVENIENCE OF WINGS, has been seven years in the making. Performing together for the past 35 years, the dynamic and mesmerizingAuryn Quartet makes its Segerstrom Center debut on Tuesday, October 11in Samueli Theater for an evening of chamber music that The Cleveland Plain Dealer declares, “[is] in the European tradition that blends elegance of sound with seamless phrasing and clarity of detail.” Having recorded all 68 of Haydn's quartets, naturally the evening will include a selection by the composer, Haydn's String Quartet Opus 77/1 G Major. The program continues with Bartók's String Quartet No. 2, Stravinsky's Three Pieces for String Quartet and Mozart's String Quartet K. 465 “Dissonance.” The Auryn Quartet includes Matthias Lingenfelder, violin; Jens Oppermann, violin;Stewart Eaton, viola and Andreas Arndt, cello. 

Artistic Director Anda Winters today announces Print Room at the Coronet's forthcoming season running through until December 2016. The season opens with Tennessee Williams' A Lovely Sunday for Creve Coeur, directed by Michael Oakley. The production opens in the main theatre space on 15 September, with previews from 12 September, and runs until 7 October.

Writers Theatre, under the leadership of Artistic Director Michael Halberstam and Executive Director Kathryn M. Lipuma, announces a one-week extension to Company, featuring music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by George Furth. The production is directed by William Brown. Company features original orchestrations by Jonathan Tunick, Orchestral Reductions by Ian Weinberger, music direction by Tom Vendafreddo and choreography by Brock Clawson. The show, originally slated to run through July 31, 2016, will add an additional week, through August 7, in the Alexandra C. and John D. Nichols Theatre at 325 Tudor Court, Glencoe.

It seems unimaginable that a single work of art can both hysterically mock and lovingly embrace some of our fondest childhood memories.
