San Diego Repertory Theatre (San Diego REP) has announced final casting for their upcoming production of 'Disgraced,' the 2013 Pulitzer Prize-winning drama by Ayad Akhtar.

GUYS AND DOLLS, hailed as one of the greatest musical comedies of all time, kicks off Asolo Rep's highly anticipated 2016-17 season, the fifth and final of its celebrated American Character Project.

The American Music Awards, the world's biggest fan-voted award show, announced today the “2016 American Music Awards” nominees with recording artists Joe Jonas and Rachel Platten revealing six categories of nominees live on ABC's “Good Morning America.” Immediately following the broadcast, five additional categories were announced in real time exclusively via Snapchat (TheAMAs).  ABC News then livestreamed the remaining 17 categories and included a recap of all nominees in the 11 previously announced categories.  (See the full list of nominees below).  The “2016 American Music Awards” will broadcast live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, November 20 at 8:00pm ET on ABC.   

Currently playing at The Georgetown Palace Theatre, 1776 THE MUSICAL, has a new concept on the popular, patriotic show that succeeds on every level. Director Clifford Butler has assembled a top notch cast with an added bonus. He chose to blind cast the roles in the musical, making fully half of the traditionally male roles, female.

The winners of the 2016 SCrIBE Scriptwriting Competition were announced at the end of last week, following a week of professional staged readings featuring four finalists. The 59th Annual Monterey Jazz Festival wrapped up Sunday, September 18 after a weekend of debut artists, returning masters and new favorites. Over 36,600 fans came through the gates of the Monterey County Fairgrounds during the weekend of September 16-18. Boston Lyric Opera (BLO) opens its 40th season with Calixto Bieito's bold staging of Georges Bizet's Carmen, the largest production the company has mounted in its four decades. Set in the arid earthiness of post-Franco Spanish North Africa, Carmen is a powerful account of a defiantly free-spirited woman and her obsessive lover. With the familiar story and iconic score that opera buffs and casual opera-goers alike know and love, BLO's Carmen opens September 23 for four performances through October 2. The run marks the company's debut at the Boston Opera House whereCarmen will be the first professional opera produced at the venerable theater since 1991.

The finalists of the 2016 SCrIBE Scriptwriting Competition have been announced. Produced by the Imbewu Trust and now marking its fifth year, SCrIBE is a national competition which provides the opportunity for playwrights to develop new work.

For their inaugural offering, Great Circle Productions will present the world premiere of EDWIN, The Story of Edwin Booth, a dramatic musical that commemorates the 150th Anniversary (1866-2016) of the legendary actor's return to the stage, as well as the 400th Anniversary of the birth of William Shakespeare, with music by Marianna Rosett, and book & lyrics by Eric Swanson.

Writers Theatre, under the leadership of Artistic Director Michael Halberstam and Executive Director Kathryn M. Lipuma, announces a one-week extension to Company, featuring music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by George Furth. The production is directed by William Brown. Company features original orchestrations by Jonathan Tunick, Orchestral Reductions by Ian Weinberger, music direction by Tom Vendafreddo and choreography by Brock Clawson. The show, originally slated to run through July 31, 2016, will add an additional week, through August 7, in the Alexandra C. and John D. Nichols Theatre at 325 Tudor Court, Glencoe.

This summer, NYMF will be on quest to save Paradise one Scrabble tile at a time. The new musical, The Last Word will be presented at the Duke on 42nd Street, a NEW 42ND STREET project (229 W 42nd St) . The Last Word is written by Brett Sullivan (Billy Elliot Live Film Director) and will be directed by Michael Bello (Doctor Zhivago), choreography by Nick Kenkel (Gotta Dance, Legally Blonde) and Musical Supervisor is Conrad Helfrich (Dirty Dancing).  It will begin performances on July 22 and will run through July 29, 2016.
