Launching 2023, @climatechangetheatR brings the joy of puppets and music to the very immediate and serious topic of climate change.

It was with some trepidation that I began my interview with Payton Reilly, star of TOOTSIE, the musical set to begin a 3 day run at The Playhouse on October 6. One of Payton’s acting credits was an off Broadway production of WILD WOMEN OF PLANET WONGO. How does one prepare for this? Is there a language of wongoise?

Full casting is announced for David and Paul Rigano's 8th Annual Ides of March Extravaganza. The award-winning songwriting duo of the Brothers Rigano (known as The Rigano Songbook) will be livestreaming their annual concert for free on March 15 at 7pm.

The personal becomes the political when passionately-opinionated African American women speak their minds on the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, Black Lives Matter, missing black women and girls, black-on-black crime, and male/female relationships in a soul-stirring mix of song, dance, poetry, and prose. The interrelated dramatic monologues range from tragedy to comedy in a 'newsical' revue that examines pressing social issues from an African-American female perspective. Sistas on Fire! A Newsical uses theatre to provoke thought, encourage social activism, and build bridges that cross race, class, gender and culture. In short, it's For Colored Girls for the New Millennium.

This immersive sci-fi musical comedy spoofs madcap 60s B movies while placing the audience into the middle of the experience. "Wild Women of Planet Wongo" was written by Ben Budick, Steve Mackes and Dave Ogrin and is directed by David Rigano. Rodgers and Hammerstein's great American classic Oklahoma! bursts onto the Ogunquit Playhouse stage June 13 to July 7. The Playhouse is thrilled to create an exciting new production of this beloved classic as part of its 75th Anniversary since first opening on Broadway. The original 1960's inspired sci-fi musical WILD WOMEN OF PLANET WONGO gets an immersive, dance-party infused production beginning June 11. This theatrical extravaganza will transform the bar and gallery space of Bushwick's Brooklyn Fireproof into Planet Wongo where audience members can dance, interact with sexy alien beings and be part of the show. Wongo is based on a concept by Ben Budick with music by Dave Ogrin, lyrics by Ben Budick, Steve Mackes and Dave Ogrin and a book by Steve Mackes. David Rigano directs. Performances begin June 11.

Sachi Parker will perform this two-act one-woman play, written by herself and playwright Frederick Stroppel, at an invitation-only reading at the National Arts Club on Monday November 18th.

The performers are a who's who of the best of Key West. David Black is comfortable moving between musical theater, comedy and drama, as reflected in his many appearances on Key West stages. This season he appeared at the Waterfront in the highly praised 'Doubt' as well as 'Reefer Madness' and 'The Red Head Dilemma.' Laurie Breakwell appeared this season in the Key West Pops concert of 'A Little Night Music' and 'The Wild Women of Planet Wongo' at the Red Barn. Last season she appeared in the Barn's 'Bark!' as well as the Pops' 'The Pajama Game.'

Denis Hyland ('Rocky Horror Show,' 'Equus,') plays Jack the super smooth proprietor of the Reefer Den, with Mary Falconer ('The Best Man,' 'Urinetown') playing Mae - the long-suffering hostess of the Den. Nulita Loder ('Urinetown,' 'My Way') plays Sally, the seductive Reefer Slut, and Michael Aaglan ('The Best Man') plays Ralph, a former fraternity man who's become a giggling reefer addict. Kristen Wilson ('Urinetown,' 'Bat Boy') plays the Placard Girl who parades lessons to be learned from the dangers of the leafy menace.

This California girl changed coasts 2 years ago, after touring Europe with 'Grease' and the U.S. and Japan with Brian Setzer.

In March and April, composers (such as Jeff Blumenkrantz and Paul Scott Goodman) will join writers and performers for the 2006 Music Theatre Marathon
