The award, named in honor of the late award-winning lyricist Fred Ebb, will be presented by Eric Schaeffer of the Signature Theatre on Monday, November 30th from 6-8pm at a by-invitation-only ceremony in the Penthouse Lobby of The American Airlines Theater.

We me a lot of people last night. There were Rudy Ice, Eddie Mush, Frankie Coffeecake, Jo-Jo the Whale, Jimmy 10-to-2 and Harry Wheeeee-ah. (That last word is an attempt to replicate the sound of someone preparing to lob a loogie out his window.) Yes, there was a crowd that, in the end numbered 18. But three of them were more important than the others: Calogero Lorenzo Palminteri, his father Lorenzo and Sonny, the local capo di tutti capi -the neighborhood crime boss. Of course 'we' (the audience at the Venetian Theatre in Las Vegas) didn't actually 'meet' all these people.

Old Globe Executive Producer Lou Spisto today announced the complete cast and creative team for the world premiere of Sammy, a new musical based on the life of Sammy Davis, Jr. with book, music and lyrics by Leslie Bricusse, and additional songs by Bricusse and Anthony Newley. Directed by Keith Glover with choreography by Keith Young and music supervision by Ian Fraser, Sammy will run in the Old Globe Theatre Sept. 19 - Nov. 8. Previews run from Sept. 19 - Oct. 1. Opening night is Oct. 2 at 8:00 p.m.

Zakes Mokae, apartheid activist and Tony Award winning actor for Master Harold...And The Boys died on Friday of complications from a stroke in Las Vegas at age 75. The South African actor additionally appeared on Broadway in The Song of Jacob Zulu, Blood Knot, and A Lesson From Aloes. His work was largely focused on bringing attention to the brutality of the apartheide. Mokae also suffered from Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease.

Hamingson) announced complete casting today for the Shakespeare in the Park production of Euripides' THE BACCHAE, directed by JoAnne Akalaitis with original music by Philip Glass and translated by Nicholas Rudall. Anthony Mackie (The Hurt Locker) will play the lead role of Pentheus joining George Bartenieff as Cadmus; André De Shields as Teiresias; Jonathan Groff as Dionysus; Karen Kandel as Chorus Leader; Joan MacIntosh as Agave; Steven Rishard as Cowherd; and Rocco Sisto as Messenger.
