The Hispanic Society of America was named the recipient of the 2017 Princess of Asturias Award for International Cooperation from a field of nineteen candidates. The prestigious award was established in Spain by the Prince of Asturias Foundation in 1981 to acknowledge individuals, entities, and organizations worldwide who have made significant contributions and helped to promote cultural and humanistic values that form part of the universal heritage of humanity and consolidate the existing links between the principality of Asturias and the title traditionally held by the heirs to the Crown of Spain. The eight award categories are: Arts, Literature, Social Sciences, Communications and Humanities, Scientific and Technical Research, International Cooperation, Sports, and Concord.

The University of Washington School of Drama will present Sarah Ruhl's adaptation of Orlando by Virginia Woolf, directed by School of Drama Professor and CIVIC REP Artistic Director L. Zane Jones. The New York Choral Society (NYCHORAL) under the direction of its Music Director David Hayes will give the New York Premiere of celebrated Scottish composer James MacMillan's St. Luke Passion. NYCHORAL will be joined by organist Jason Roberts as well as the remarkable Brooklyn Youth Chorus under Artistic Director Dianne Berkun Menaker. James MacMillan's St. Luke Passion, written in 2013, is the second of four planned works, each based on one of the Gospels which aim to approach the differing passion accounts from contrasting stylistic per-spectives. The concert will take place on Saturday evening, April 8, 2017, 8 pm at the landmark St. Bartholomew's Church, at 51st Street and Park Avenue. The program follows:

Chicago Opera Theater (COT) presents "The Invention of Morel," a world premiere of the co-commissioned opera composed by Stewart Copeland, co-founder and drummer of The Police. Based on Argentinian author Adolfo Bioy Casares' 1940 novel "La invencion de Morel," Copeland's new adaptation examines the triumph of time-bending love over convention in a story of adoration and desire. "The Invention of Morel" features London-based actor, director and writer Jonathan Moore as Stage Director/Librettist together with COT's Artistic Director Andreas Mitisek as Conductor. The press performance will be February 18 at 7:30 p.m. Subsequent performances will be February 24 at 7:30 p.m.and February 26 at 3 p.m.
