A jilted bride sues for breach of promise of marriage: the Defendant has found a new love. The judge and jury are much taken with the Plaintiff, while the ladies in the Public Gallery seem enamored of the Defendant. The Defendant claims that any damages must be small since he is such a "very bad lot" that the Plaintiff couldn't endure him for even a day! He offers to "marry this lady today and marry the other tomorrow." The judge ponders this nice dilemma and makes an imaginative ruling to settle the case happily.

In In the Heights, it was the plight of immigrants trying to make lives for themselves in America, in Amadeus, it was a lead character with an obsessive personality, and in Ragtime, it was a character who seeks justice for a racially-based assault. In David W. Rintels' one-man play, Clarence Darrow, which made its debut last weekend at the Rubicon Theatre Company, reexamines the life of a man whose philosophy of democratic socialism reflects the political philosophy of Democratic challenger, Senator Bernie Sanders.

The American judicial system is as much on trial as the defendant when twelve diverse jurors dramatically wrestle with their civic duty. Locked in a jury room, tempers flare and frustration abounds as their own prejudices, fears, and cultural biases boil to the surface in what was expected to be an open-and-shut case of an inner-city teen on trial for the murder of his abusive father.
