Cristofer and Clarence are two gifted students from the South Bronx. After two years at a local community college being coached by faculty members, the young men are competing for a life-changing scholarship at an elite northeast university. During a campus visit, the young men are unexpectedly confronted with their shared past while trying to break through a system that seems designed to keep them on the outside.

The Marlowe Theatre to be Managed by Independent Charitable Trust

An independent charitable trust will take on the management of The Marlowe after councillors gave the plan the green light last night (Thursday, 4 January). Detailed negotiations about how Canterbury City Council hands over the running of the theatre in Canterbury will now intensify after formal approval was given unanimously at the meeting of the full council. Student Production IN THE COTTON Headed To Regional Kennedy Center American Theater Festival

A theatre production developed by students at three community colleges is one of only seven student productions selected to perform at an upcoming regional Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival. Howard Community College (HCC), along with Carroll and Prince George's community colleges, debuted an original, collaborative production of The Farm Theatre Project-'In the Cotton' by Morgan McGuire. Directed by HCC Theatre Department Chair Bill Gillett, 'In the Cotton' is a timely play that explores perspectives of race and society, communication, and relationships. The story revolves around a hate crime that is perpetrated on a college campus, and the feelings this evokes in a group of college students. (more...)

The Donmar Warehouse today announces that Josie Rourke is to step down in 2019, after eight years as Artistic Director, and Executive Producer Kate Pakenham will leave in June 2018. The team were the first female partnership to run a London theatre. During Rourke and Pakenham's tenure the Donmar stage has seen ground-breaking productions, including BAFTA-nominated The Vote, with Dame Judi Dench, which reached over half a million homes on the night of the 2015 General Election; the award-winning Coriolanus with Tom Hiddleston (2013); and the culture-shifting all-female Shakespeare Trilogy starring Harriet Walter, from director Phyllida Lloyd (2012-2016) in London and New York, and on screen. When a production Transfers, changes are inevitable. Different spaces create different possibilities and limitations, for actors, directors and designers alike. For the audience then, the entire experience between watching a show in one theatre and another may be wholly different. Part of the Royal Shakespeare Company's Rome MMXVII Season, Antony & Cleopatra is one of four shows to transfer to the Barbican. Rather than lose anything, Iqbal Khan's production gains something in this move. Playing in a proscenium arch theatre, the show and Robert Innes Hopkins' design cry out: 'Here is my space'.
