BWW Review: Merrick Theatre's THE CRUCIBLE
by Melissa Giordano - Feb 22, 2018

Oh my goodness, what a powerful production and remarkable cast is offered in Merrick Theatre's latest The Crucible. Arthur Miller's 1953 Tony winning play is - perhaps - often produced, but when you have a showing of this caliber, it certainly warrants another look. Now playing at the adorable Long Island venue through March 4th, Merrick's incarnation is superbly directed by Daniel C. Higgins.

Review: A LOVE AFFAIR Recounts the Roller Coaster Ride of a 38-Year (and Counting) Marriage
by Shari Barrett - Jan 22, 2018

Have you and your partner ever thought how nice it would be to go back and have a conversation with your younger selves that might be able to change the course of your lives together? No doubt playwright Jerry Mayer, whose plays deal with the 'ups, downs and sideways' of male/female relationships, must have wondered the same thing and created the comedy A LOVE AFFAIR to address the idea of one couple, at two different stages of their marriage, meeting in the midst of relationship upheaval when selling their family home and sorting through years of marriage mementos. Witty sexual innuendos abound as the business of aging is handled with great humor and understanding from both the youthful and more mature viewpoints.

BWW Review: 'S Wonderful AN AMERICAN IN PARIS Tour Enchants O.C.
by Michael L. Quintos - May 1, 2017

Strikingly refined yet pleasingly grounded and altogether delightful, the gorgeous 2015 Broadway musical stage adaptation of AN AMERICAN IN PARIS---inspired by the Academy Award-winning 1951 movie musical of the same name---is a sweepingly lush, dance-centric production that combines the high-brow sophistication of classical ballet with the pure exuberance and emotional highs and lows of musical theater. The resulting hybrid? Absolutely beguiling. The national tour production continues its 'S'wonderful' Orange County debut through May 7, 2017.

BWW Review: THE FINAL VOYAGE OF X MINUS ONE at Counter-Productions Theatre Company
by Andria Tieman - Nov 14, 2016

As a theatre reviewer, I have the privilege of watching all kinds of productions. Everything from Shakespeare to locally-written original works is up for grabs. Occasionally, though, one needs to bring in an expert, which is what I opted to do for my review of The Final Voyage of X Minus One at AS220's Black Box theatre. It's not that this production is hard to understand, or less entertaining to those who are not intimately familiar with sci-fi, but genre works tend to have a lot of subtle nods and winks that may go over the layperson's head, and I was concerned about missing something important. So I brought in a ringer, in the form of my geeky husband Ryan Michney, and I've included his thoughts below.

BWW Review: Stray Dog Theatre's Rousing and Arousing THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW
by Chris Gibson - Oct 26, 2016

I can recall viewing The Rocky Horror Picture Show at the old Varsity Theatre in the Delmar Loop before it closed its doors many years ago. There was a mood generated by the grungy atmosphere of that old movie house, with fans packed in like sardines, and dressed in various character costumes for the occasion, that's impossible to recreate when you can just pop in the DVD or Blu-Ray and watch it at home by yourself. Besides, it's always more fun to see it with an enthusiastic crowd. Happily, Stray Dog Theatre is presenting an enjoyable and thoroughly engaging production of the original musical the film was based upon, THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW, and they encourage audience participation (within reason). Go and have an absolute blast!

Iced Tea Beats Out Hot as AbsoluTEAly America's Favorite...
by Marina Kennedy - Jun 11, 2016

June is National Iced Tea Month, making it the perfect time to salute tea, a beloved beverage that tastes great and is good for you. Not only is tea the second most consumed beverage in the world after water, but on any given day more than half of the American population drinks tea. In fact, according to a survey of Americans commissioned by the Tea Council of the USA, more tea drinkers like their tea iced than hot (84% vs. 75%). So, in honor of National Iced Tea month, and National Iced Tea Day, celebrated on Friday, June 10, grab a glass and toast to some of the "cool" tea facts uncovered by the nationwide survey.
