In 1992, Crazy for You opened on Broadway and won the 1992 Tony Award for Best New Musical and ran for over 1600 performances before closing in 1996. Originally billed as 'a new Musical Comedy' by George and Ira Gershwin, the production is heavily based on Girl Crazy, a show written by the songwriting team back in 1930. Crazy for You will open at the new Alhambra Theatre & Dining tonight, March 20.

Classic Stage Company, under the leadership of Artistic Director Brian Kulick and Executive Director Greg Reiner, will present the eighth season of its popular YOUNG COMPANY, which creates classical works specially tailored for young audiences. This season's production will focus on Shakespeare's Macbeth, and will run from tonight, March 8 through March 22 at Classic Stage Company (136 East 13th Street). Columbia University M.F.A. students and professional Equity actors will be featured in Shakespeare's darkest tragedy. Directed by Tony Speciale (A Midsummer Night's Dream), Macbeth will be presented in a 90-minute abridged version specifically geared toward student and family audiences.

Marin Theatre Company, in a co-production with Virginia Stage Company, will stage the regional premiere of Matthew Lopez's Civil War drama The Whipping Man in Mill Valley from March 28 to April 21, 2013. MTC's artistic director Jasson Minadakis directs the production. Featuring popular Bay Area actors L. Peter Callender, Nicholas Pelczar and Tobie Windham, as well as the design team from MTC's 2011 San Francisco Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle Award nominated production of Tennessee Williams's The Glass Menagerie, this co-production will rehearse and run at VSC in Norfolk, Virginia, from February 26 to March 17, 2013, before moving to MTC. Opening night at MTC is on Tuesday, April 2.

New City Stage Company presents the Philadelphia professional premiere of HURLYBURLY by David Rabe tonight. The show is staged by Barrymore Award winning director James J. Christy and features Russ Widdall of HBO's 'The Wire.' This award-winning play is the third professional production of New City Stage's 7th season, entitled 'The New American Dysfunctional Family'. This is the first time the show is receiving a professional production in the greater Philadelphia area. Performances begin tonight, February 28, and run throught through March 24, 2013 at the Adrienne Theater Main Stage at 2030 Sansom Street in downtown Philadelphia.

In celebration of Black History month, Arts at The Park's artist-in-residence Deanna Witkowski will lead a trio (with bassist Linda Oh and drummer Willard Dyson) and a 12-voice choir of professional jazz vocalists (including Sara Serpa, Tammy Scheffer, Miles Griffith) in a performance of works by the preeminent African-American jazz pianist, composer, and innovator Mary Lou Williams (1910-1981) who broke through her era's significant barriers to women jazz musicians. The Grove Theatre has announced its production of HAIR, the American tribal love-rock musical, opening tonight, January 11th, 2013. HAIR, first opened Off-Broadway in October, 1967, re-opened on Broadway in May, 1968, and the Tony Award-winning show has enjoyed huge success since that time. HAIR portrays a loving, living, realistic look at the flower children of the 60's, who band together as a tribe, complete with bells, beads, incense, flowers, costumes and dreams. HAIR puts rock music and the culture that went with it on stage.

The Alhambra Theatre & Dining will be rocking southern style when it opens it 2013 campaign with the renowned Johnny Cash tribute show, 'Ring of Fire, the Johnny Cash Musical Show.' The show features eight actors and a four-piece live band, bringing theatrical life to Cash's classic story songs. A true tribute to the man and his music, the show does not actually feature an actor playing Cash, who died in 2003, but it does chronicle his most-interesting life - from his debut at the Grand Ole Opry to Folsom County Prison and back to stardom. The show opened in 2006 at Broadway's Barrymore Theatre.
