The Castillo Theatre continues its presentation of four winning scripts from the 2012 Mario Fratti-Fred Newman Political Play Contest, selected from more than 200 entries including submissions by playwrights from around the world. The plays are being directed by distinguished theatre professionals and the final production plays tonight, August 27 at 7:00 p.m.

The multi-award winning team of shake & stir theatre co are back at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) from tonight, 16 August to 1 September in the Cremorne Theatre with an adaption of George Orwell's classic novel 1984.

Berkeley Playhouse founding Artistic Director Elizabeth McKoy helms this musical treat, based on Roald Dahl's stylish children's story about the world famous candy man, starring noted Bay Area singer/songwriter, musician, and recording artist Vernon Bush in the title role. Roald Dahl'S WILLY WONKA AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY plays tonight, July 14 through August 19 at the Julia Morgan Theatre in Berkeley.

First Run Theatre, a professional company dedicated to presenting world premiere productions of unpublished plays by local-area playwrights, opens its tenth season with "Brooklyn Bagatelle," a two-act "Dramedy" by Neville Mur. It will be directed by Jim Meady and produced by Brad Slavik and Jim Meady. Performance dates are tonight, June 22 and June 23, 29 and 30 (8 PM curtain); and June 24 and July 1 (2 PM curtain).

New York City Ballet's 2012 Spring Gala tonight, May 10 will feature a one-time-only salute to France titled À La Francaise, and will feature two World Premiere ballets, one by NYCB's Ballet Master in Chief Peter Martins to a score by the French composer Marc-Andre Dalbavie; and one by French-born choreographer and former NYCB Principal Dancer Benjamin Millepied to a commissioned score by Nico Muhly. The evening will also include a major revival of George Balanchine's Symphony in C, which was created for the Paris Opera Ballet in 1947 to a score by the French composer Georges Bizet.

"Commando: The Autobiography of Johnny Ramone," comes out nationwide on April 2nd, 2012 from Abrams Image. The definitive book on The Ramones, "Commando…" is the first and only autobiographical work written by a founding member of the Ramones chronicling his life, and the story of the band itself, from start to finish. Johnny authors an honest and detailed firsthand account of the band, from inception and their humble beginnings at CBGB in 1974 all the way through to their retirement in 1996 and beyond. American Theater Company (ATC) presents the tenth anniversary year of the beloved holiday classic, It's a Wonderful Life: The Radio Play adapted from Frank Capra's film and directed by Jason W. Gerace.

Pepperdine University Center for the Arts presents 'Go Tell It on the Mountain: The Blind Boys of Alabama Christmas Show' at Pepperdine's Smothers Theatre at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, December 13.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will examine the technology behind 'It's a Wonderful Life' on Monday, December 12 at 7 p.m. at the Academy Theater at Lighthouse International in New York City. Special guest Craig Barron, Oscar-winning visual effects supervisor, will discuss studio production methods of the era, the use of matte paintings in key scenes, and the origins of the film's sound effects. The program will also include a special introduction by Karolyn Grimes, who played Zuzu Bailey in the film, marking the first time she will present the film in New York City.
