The Latina Women's Association and the Warner Theatre will host a free film screening of Hay Un Pa s En El Mundo on Thursday, February 28 at 6 pm in the Warner's Nancy Marine Studio Theatre. The film is a documentary, directed by Jos Pintor, about a national registry of Dominican literature, painting, economy, society, gastronomy, agriculture and popular art. It includes participation from important national music representatives, and experts and intellectuals in each topic.

Guest conductor Peter Oundjian conducts Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra (LACO) in a blockbuster program featuring a world premiere by LACO's 2018-19 Sound Investment composer Sarah Gibson; Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 17 performed by pianist Jonathan Biss; Beethoven's iconic Symphony No. 5; and Seeger's Andante for Strings, on Saturday, January 26, 8 pm, at Glendale's Alex Theatre, and Sunday, January 27, 2019, 7 pm, at Royce Hall. Oundjian, the "consistently illuminating" (Gramophone) former music director of both the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and the Royal National Orchestra in Scotland, made his LACO debut in 2015 and most recently appeared with the Orchestra in fall 2017. Biss, who "will surely take his place among the greats" (BBC Music Magazine), is widely regarded for his artistry and deeply felt interpretations, winning international recognition for his orchestral, recital, and chamber music performances as well as for his award-winning recordings. He last appeared with LACO in 2015.

Cabaret is a 1966 musical with music by John Kander, lyrics by Fred Ebb, and book by Joe Masteroff. The original Broadway production became such a hit it inspired several productions and revivals in New York and premiered in London's West End in 1968. Cabaret, the film, was produced in 1972, directed by Bob Fosse, and starred Liza Minnelli, Michael York, and Joel Grey. The film is particularly known for Liza Minnelli's rendition of 'Cabaret', a song she would come to sing in concert halls worldwide. It became her trademark.

This Saturday, September 22, medici.tv will broadcast the National Symphony Orchestra's 2018–2019 season opening gala concert live from the John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. Music Director Gianandrea Noseda will lead the orchestra in a program designed to celebrate space, including Holst's The Planets and an NSO-commissioned work by award-winning composer Michael Giacchino. The concert will also feature guest artist Joshua Bell.

The 1998 Sam Mendes staging of Kander and Ebb's classic "Cabaret" has come through the Paramount several times. And why not? It's a great show and a big crowd pleaser. But it requires a cast that gets the show and the tone to be done right. Fortunately for us the current tour at the Paramount is a shiny (or rather intentionally not shiny) example of how good this show can be and why it's still an enduring classic.
