As 2017 kicks off, Broadway will soon see a host of new and returning musicals, headlined and helmed by some of the stage's best. From the long-awaited return of MISS SAIGON to Bette Midler's arrival as Dolly Levi, there's plenty to be excited about as the 2016-17 theatre season ramps up.

Starting this week, Kate Rockwell will be making her Arena Stage debut as Carrie Pipperidge in the show that was named the 'Best Musical of the 20th Century' by Time Magazine, Rodgers & Hammerstein's Carousel.

?Origin's 1st Irish 2016 in New York will be bringing to the stage APPENDAGE, a black comedy drama by New York-based Dublin-born playwright, Derek Murphy, directed by Joseph Hendel.  The show will play 4 performances as part of 1st Irish's Next Generation series at Nancy Manocherian's the cell, 338 W 23rd St, New York, NY 10011 (bet 8th & 9th Aves). September 28 - October 2, 2016.

BTG's exciting revival is the first ever full-scale New York City and Off-Broadway revival of the hit musical. Previews of Fiorello! will began Sunday, September 4, at East 13th Street Theater (136 East 13th Street, between 3rd and 4th Avenues), with opening night being held tonihgt, September 9, 2016.

Also programmed are Elgar's overture In the South (Alassio) and Sibelius's Violin Concerto in D minor as performed by Karen Gomyo. NEW YORK, N.Y. - 'The Oxymoron Factor 3: Italian Interlude # 2' (published by Xlibris) is the third part of Frank Stiffel's autobiographical quadrilogy called 'The Oxymoron Factor' which includes 'Franek: Stranger in My Land', 'The Tale of the Ring', 'Italian Interlude # 2' and 'The House of Margie.' I know it's been a while since I've shared anything with you, but that's because I've been all-consumed by the 174-show 11-day festival that is the Minnesota Fringe. If you have not yet sampled from this glorious smorgasbord, don't worry, the fest continues through August 9 with 4-7 shows offered each day at 15 venues in Minneapolis, plus 9 site-specific shows. Monica Lewis, a former Benny Goodman vocalist who headlined the very first broadcast of the 'Ed Sullivan Show,' was THE VOICE of the popular Chiquita BANANA cartoons, clowned opposite Jerry Lewis, Red Skelton and Danny Kaye, turned down a marriage proposal from Ronald Reagan and went on to play co-starring roles in such films as 'Earthquake,' 'Airport 1975' and 'The Concorde--Airport '79,' died on June 12 of natural causes at her apartment in Woodland Hills, CA. She was 93.

Tarragon Theatre presents the world premiere of The Bakelite Masterpiece, written by Tarragon playwright-in-residence Kate Cayley, directed by Tarragon's Artistic Director Richard Rose and starring two award-winning, powerhouse actors, Geordie Johnson and Irene Poole. Set in the Netherlands in the aftermath of World War II, this penetrating new play exploring art, forgery and war crimes opens October 29 and runs to November 30 (with previews from October 21) in Tarragon's Extraspace.

Small-town antics, homespun humor and foot-stompin' fiddlin' come to Sierra Repertory Theatre's Fallon House Theatre in Columbia State Park today, September 26 - October 26 with Mark Twain's A Murder, A Mystery and A Marriage. Set in Deerlick, Missouri, the musical fits Columbia's historic feeling and should delight audiences seeking a taste of the wit of legendary humorist Mark Twain.
