by TV News Desk - Mar 2, 2018

Honky Tonk revivalist Bubba T.'s latest single, “Texting Texas,” opens with the twangin' Texas guitar sound and sing-along chorus that have become his trademarks.  Soulful piano and fine fiddle work add to a haunting Hank, Jr. feel, and the mid-tempo song's lyric addresses one of modern man's most timely and important topics: texting.  “Let's face it,”Bubba says.  “Our smartphones rule our lives these days.  I mean, I've seen folks hangin' onto those things like they're oxygen tanks or something. It's crazy.  When I heard this song, I knew I had to cut it.  Romantically, it could be the story of my life – and my many girlfriends and wives.”  (more...)

BWW Album Review: KRIS KRINGLE THE MUSICAL Is A Lot of Christmas Cheer
by Amanda Prahl - Mar 12, 2018

Its substance, however, is similar to that sugary treat: delightful at first, but just a little too much after a while. (more...)

BWW Review: THE BOYS OF ST. MATTHEW'S PRESENT JESUS CHRIST! AND OTHER CHRISTMAS TALES is The Raunchy Reason For The Season
by Andria Tieman - Dec 4, 2017

Since The Boys of St. Matthews burst onto the theatre scene with their 2015 production of Tartuffe, they have been a reliable source of hilarity and dick jokes. Thankfully, the Christmas stories in JESUS CHRIST! let these young men do what they do best--kidnap teachers and put on the most offensive versions of classic plays they can. This time around, we get a mashup of Christmas Carol and the story of Jesus' birth with some exceptionally intense Santa Claus and Frosty The Snowman thrown in. Also, there's a turkey. This is not a story for the prudish, as evidenced by the four people who walked out on opening night, but for those who want an excellent night out at a show that is so jam-packed with jokes you can barely catch your breath, get your tickets immediately. Christmas is a season of traditions. From the decorations that have their certain place on the mantel, to the cookies like grandma used to make, people thrive on the familiar during the holidays. This goes for films and TV specials as well. Who doesn't pause to see if George Bailey will save the savings and loan, if Ralphie will actually get his Red Ryder BB Gun, or if Rudolph will finally prove his red nose can do great things. No matter how many viewings, there is something about the characters of these beloved Christmas programs that feels familiar and right. But have you ever wondered what happened to these larger than life characters after their time in the red and green spotlight? These are the questions that TheaterWorks in Hartford hilariously tackles in CHRISTMAS ON THE ROCKS. (more...)
