Skylight Music Theatre today announced the cast and creative team for Ruddigore, or The Witch's Curse, presented January 3-19, 2020 in collaboration with Milwaukee Opera Theatre. Skylight celebrates its long history of producing the works of W.S. Gilbert (book and lyrics) and Arthur Sullivan (music) with an imaginatively reinvigorated production of this classic gothic operetta. Ruddigore will be performed in a special, limited run in the Studio Theatre at the Broadway Theatre Center, 158 N. Broadway, in Milwaukee's Historic Third Ward.

Ted Sperling, Artistic Director of MasterVoices, announced details of the acclaimed ensemble's 78th season, celebrating the joy of choral singing and the power of the human voice to unite, inspire and connect since 1941. Highlights include three major musical presentations at top venues, including a New York premiere, and the World Premiere of a new work, commissioned by the Company. Throughout the season there will be collaborations with leading singers, artists, ensembles and organizations, some who are familiar with and others who are new to the Company.

Complementing performances of Tony Award-winning actress and director Victoria Clark's production of Conor McPherson's new version of Strindberg's The Dance of Death, Classic Stage Company (CSC; Artistic Director, John Doyle) presents the second installment of its new Classic Conversations series. The series began with acclaimed actor Raul Esparza on the occasion of his "blisteringly good" (New York magazine) turn in Bertolt Brecht's Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui; another conversation will be announced this spring. The March 5 at 7pm event will serve as a rare, intimate, and engaging distillation of Clark's life in theater through conversation-with CSC Artistic Director John Doyle and celebrated music director Ted Sperling-and song. Sperling, who memorably worked with Clark on The Light in the Piazza, for which they both received Tony Awards, will also accompany Clark on piano for the musical portion of the evening. This one-night-only engagement takes place Tues, March 5 at 7pm at Classic Stage Company (136 E 13th Street, New York); tickets are $100-$150 and can be purchased at classicstage.org or 212-352-3101 (or toll free 866-811-411). The Dance of Death runs in repertory with director Shariffa Ali's staging of Yael Farber's Mies Julie through March 10.

I have been a huge fan of both Wil Love and Carl Schurr for many years. They are currently both performing in Everyman Theatre's THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST which ends its run Dec. 30, 2018. They have become two patriarchs of the Baltimore theatre scene. Since their meeting at Center Stage in 1971, they have performed, produced, and adapted hundreds of performances both regionally and nationally. Now in their 10th year as Resident Company Members at Everyman Theatre, Wil and Carl have plenty of war stories and advice to share. I connected with these two venerable performances to learn more about their story.

New Line Theatre, "the bad boy of musical theatre," announces its 28th season of adult, alternative musical theatre, including the world premiere of THE ZOMBIES OF PENZANCE, Gilbert & Sullivan's newly discovered, original 'operatic abomination,' in its first ever production, running Sept. 27-Oct. 20, 2018; followed by the 'family values' classic musical LA CAGE AUX FOLLES, running Feb. 28-March 23, 2019; and to close the season, the St. Louis premiere of the new sci-fi rock musical BE MORE CHILL, based on the bestselling novel, running May 30-June 22, 2019. All New Line's mainstage shows will be in the company's home, the Marcelle Theater, in the Grand Center Arts District.

The Theatre Group at SBCC concludes the 17/18 season with the Pulitzer Prize-winning play, CRIMES OF THE HEART by Beth Henley.

The Case Western Reserve University/Cleveland Play House MFA Acting Program announces the debut performance of the Class of 2020. Fifth of July, from Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Lanford Wilson, will run in the Helen Theatre at Playhouse Square.

Tenri Cultural Institute presents the world premiere of Emily Bront Through Life and Death, A Chainless Soul, a poetic mono-opera in one act based on selected poems of Emily Bront by composer Akemi Naito on Friday, January 5th and Saturday, January 6th at 8pm. Honoring the 200th Anniversary of the birth of Emily Bront in 2018, this mono-opera is a collaborative work with mezzo-soprano Jessica Bowers, pianist Marilyn Nonken, actor Robert Ian Mackenzie, and visual artist Toshihiro Sakuma, whose Healing exhibition will be on view.

Kevin Kline has won the 2017 Tony Award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Play for PRESENT LAUGHTER.

In May 2017, Utah Opera will present Mozart's “Don Giovanni,” a tale of love, seduction, and murder as seen through the stylized lens of a 1950s “film noir” cinematic approach. This production will be performed five times at the Janet Quinney Lawson Capitol Theatre on May 13, 15, 17, 19 at 7:30 PM and May 21 at 2 PM. The Pasadena Symphony closes out its 2016-2017 Singpoli Classics Serieswith Beethoven Symphony No. 9 on April 29 with both matinee and evening performances at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. at Ambassador Auditorium. The best-selling Russian crime fiction writer Boris Akunin's new stage adaptation of Shakespeare's HAMLET will debut this spring Off-Broadway when Red Lab Productions and Roust Theatre Company present HAMLET. A VERSION, with previews beginning April 21, prior to the official press opening on April 25 at The Theater at St. Clement's (423 W. 46 St.) in New York City. HAMLET. A VERSION is directed by Irina Gachechiladze. The production features original music by Georgian composer Giya Kancheli.

The Public Theater recently announced that Louis Cancelmi, last seen as Caliban in the Shakespeare in the Park production of The Tempest, had stepped into the company of Troilus and Cressida as Achilles, replacing David Harbour, who suffered an injury during previews and will be unable to complete the run. The play celebrates its opening tonight, August 9, after a short delay.

Drury Lane Theatre continues its 2016-2017 season with Ira Levin's popular murder mystery, Deathtrap, directed by Artistic Director William Osetek. Deathtrap runs June 9 - August 14, 2016 at Drury Lane Theatre, 100 Drury Lane in Oakbrook Terrace. The Press Opening is Thursday, June 16 at 8:00 p.m.

David Hare's contemporary classic Skylight returns to Melbourne Theatre Company's stage 20 years after its Australian premiere. Led by newly appointed MTC Associate Director Dean Bryant (I'll Eat You Last, Next to Normal), Skylight opens on Thursday 23 June at Southbank Theatre, The Sumner. 

Alongside the onscreen appearance of Liam Neeson and the onstage appearance of Jeff Wayne and his magnificent Black Smoke Band and ULLAdubULLA string orchestra, casting has now been announced for the World Stage Premiere of The War of The Worlds at the Dominion Theatre.
