As one of the nation's leading regional theaters and producing partners for Broadway, Paper Mill Playhouse has a well-earned reputation for launching both performers and shows for Broadway. Since their inception in 1996, the Paper Mill Playhouse Rising Star Awards for Excellence in High School Musical Theatre have ignited the careers of many notable performers, all of whom attended high school in New Jersey.

Long Wharf Theatre, under the leadership of Artistic Director Gordon Edelstein and Managing Director Joshua Borenstein, will present The Last Five Years, written and composed by Jason Robert Brown, from May 7 through June 1, 2014 on the Claire Tow Stage in the C. Newton Schenck III Theatre.

The world premiere production of the brand new musical comedy Bullets Over Broadway, written by Woody Allen and based on the screenplay by Allen and Douglas McGrath for the 1994 film, will begin preview performances tomorrow, March 11 and officially open Thursday, April 10, 2014 at The St. James Theatre (246 West 44th Street). The new musical will be directed and choreographed by five-time Tony Award winner Susan Stroman. Cameron Mackintosh, widely considered to be the most successful theatrical producer of all-time, becomes the first British producer ever to be inducted into The Theater Hall of Fame at a ceremony this evening Monday, January 27 at the Gershwin Theatre in New York. Mackintosh is joined by this year's fellow inductees actors Cherry Jones and Ellen Burstyn; directors Jerry Zaks,George C. Wolfe and Lynne Meadow; designer David Hays; and, posthumously, playwright Lorraine Hansberry. Shubert Organization Co-CEO and President, Robert Wankel, will accept the honor on Mackintosh's behalf, who is unable to attend due to a long-planned trip to Myanmar.

This just in! Producers Cameron Mackintosh and The Really Useful Group just announced that THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA will welcome a starry leading combination beginning Monday, May 12.

The stunning new production of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber's Evita will make its Twin Cities premiere January 28-February 2, 2014 at the Orpheum Theatre (910 Hennepin Ave.) in Minneapolis. This version features updated orchestrations, choreography and scenic design offering a more authentic portrait of Argentinean culture and Eva's rise to and fall from power. Toronto's acclaimed Theatre Gargantua (TG) started rehearsals this week for its world premiere of The Sacrifice Zone, marking the Canadian debut of Australian playwright Suzie Miller of The Uncertainty Principle and the culmination of the company's tenth cycle of work. Directed by Jacquie P.A. Thomas, Artistic Director of Theatre Gargantua, The Sacrifice Zone is a dynamic investigation into the harrowing pursuit of justice after a fatal explosion in an industry town dedicated to resource extraction. The Sacrifice Zone opens November 14 and runs to November 30 (previews November 13) at the Factory Studio Theatre.

The Broadway League just announced the recipients of its eighteenth annual National Education and Community Engagement Grants. These grants support inspired and inventive programs for a wide range of participants to experience and understand Broadway performances as a form of artistic expression and a powerful educational tool.

The UK touring company of CATS will play the Kursaal in Oostende, Belgium, from today, July 30th to August 18th 2013. The show will be performed in English with surtitles in French and Dutch.

According to the Daily News, theatre producer Cameron Mackintosh just handed over $2.9 million in a settlement with a FedEx delivery man that slipped and fell outside of his midtown offices. The 54 year-old was injured in November 2008, suffering 'a torn rotator cuff, ruptured quadriceps tendon and torn meniscus in his knee, as well as neck and back injuries.'

A team of experienced pros with extensive Broadway, regional and TV experience, will perform the hilarious, madcap comedy RUMORS, by Neil Simon, at the Saint Michael's Playhouse today, July 17 to 27. The show will be staged, evenings at 8 p.m. July 17 to 20, and 23-27 and matinees at 2 p.m. July 20 and 27.

It'll be a grand night for singing on Wednesday, July 17 at 6:30 p.m. as Christopher Bell conducts the Grant Park Orchestra and Chorus in a salute to the legendary team of Rodgers and Hammerstein at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion in Chicago's Millennium Park. Joined by guest artists Rebecca Luker, Doug LaBrecque and William Michals, they will showcase the music of Oklahoma, South Pacific, The King and I, Carousel and The Sound of Music by Rodgers and Hammerstein, along with favorites from Kern and Hammerstein and Rodgers and Hart. The concert is free.

Renowned Oscar Wilde expert Alan Stanford, PICT's interim Producing Artistic Director, will direct his adaptation of the great Irish playwright's comedy, Lady Windermere's Fan. Wilde's play, first produced in 1892 in London, satirizes the morality of Victorian society. Stanford has moved the setting forward in time to 1947; in post-World-War II London, Wilde's language and ridicule of high-society still resonate. Oscar Wilde was not so much a writer of polite English comedy, but rather a biting Irish satirist who lampooned the social absurdities and prejudices of the English upper classes, prejudices that lasted well into the Twentieth Century. This production, which runs tonight, July 11 through July 27, is PICT's third show of the season, and features a cast of 17 actors.

The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra will kick off its summer season and the region's Independence Day celebrations with its annual Star-Spangled Spectacular, conducted by Maestro Robert Bernhardt tonight, July 3 and Thursday, July 4 at 8 p.m. at Oregon Ridge Park in Cockeysville, Maryland.
