Baltimore Symphony Orchestra Announces Addition of Four New Musicians

Baltimore, MD (September 21, 2015) -- The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra today announced several orchestra personnel updates at the start of its Centennial season. The BSO's rigorous selection process draws from a national pool of exceptionally talented musicians and involves multiple rounds of auditions before a panel of peer musicians from the Orchestra and Music Director Marin Alsop. New players who join the Orchestra complete a probationary period of 16 months with the ensemble before they are granted tenure. Four new musicians, who won auditions last spring and over the summer, have been appointed to tenure track positions:

The Old Globe opens its 2015-2016 Season with IN YOUR ARMS, a World Premiere dance-theatre musical featuring direction and choreography by Tony Award winner Christopher Gattelli (Newsies, Godspell, Lincoln Center Theater's The King and I and South Pacific) and original music by Tony Award winner Stephen Flaherty (Ragtime, Once on This Island; two-time Oscar nominee for Anastasia). The production begins tonight, September 16, with an opening slated for September 24, and runs through October 25, 2015.

 In summer 2016, Carnegie Hall's Weill Music Institute will launch NYO2, a two-week, intensive summer program for outstanding young American instrumentalists, ages 14-17. As with the National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America (NYO-USA) created by Carnegie Hall in 2013, NYO2 will be free to all participants. NYO2 will support greater diversity within the classical orchestral field with a particular focus on attracting talented students who have been traditionally underserved by local music programs, offering an opportunity for participants to play alongside exceptionally talented peers and learn from a world-class faculty. Running in conjunction with NYO-USA's annual summer residency at Purchase College, State University of New York (SUNY), NYO2 aims to provide the finest musical training for younger students, expanding the pool of young musicians across the country equipped with the tools to succeed at the highest level.

Ars Nova announces a two-week extension and added Saturday matinee performances for critically-acclaimed world premiere production of Small Mouth Sounds, a new play by Bess Wohl, directed by OBIE Award-winner Rachel Chavkin. Due to demand, Small Mouth Sounds will now play through Saturday, April 25, with newly added Saturday matinee performances on April 4, 11, 18, and 25. The production, which was originally set to play through April 11, began previews March 10 and celebrated its Official Opening Night on Monday, March 23 at Ars Nova (511 West 54th Street), must end April 25.
