First Stage Announces Programming Changes to 2010-2011 Season

First Stage Children's Theater announces a programming change to its 2010-2011 season. Due to unforeseen circumstances, the theatrical rights to GO, DOG, GO - slated for performances October 2-17, 2010 at the Milwaukee Youth Arts Center - are no longer available for the upcoming season.

The production, which began its run in November 2009 is directed by Jim Corti, with musical direction by Doug Peck. The production has been extended through April 18, 2010, at Writers' Theatre, 664 Vernon Avenue in Glencoe.

O'Neil Center Names 2010 NPC Selections; Uhry et al. Named Playwrights in Residence

The Eugene O'Neill Theater Center announced today that seven plays will be developed at the 2010 National Playwrights Conference under the leadership of artistic director Wendy C. Goldberg. The selected playwrights will spend the month of July at the O'Neill's Waterford, Connecticut campus developing and presenting staged readings of their work during the NPC's 46th season. Box office and online ticket sales open Wednesday, June 9; advance ticket sales will be available to O'Neill Members beginning Monday, May 17.

Tom Aldredge, Len Cariou, Nathan Lane, Alexander Hanson and Michele Pawk have joined other stars who have shone in Stephen Sondheim musicals, including Michael Cerveris, Barbara Cook, Raúl Esparza, Sutton Foster, Victor Garber, Joanna Gleason, Patti LuPone, Donna Murphy and Bernadette Peters in a gala celebration of Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winner Stephen Sondheim on the occasion of his 80th birthday on Monday, April 26. The gala, directed by Tony Award winner John Doyle, will highlight numbers from shows for which Mr. Sondheim has written both music and lyrics, and will feature a full orchestra conducted by Encores! Music Director Rob Berman. The benefit will help fund New York City Center's artistic and education programs. In addition, a portion of the evening's proceeds will go to Young Playwrights Inc, a charity of great importance to Mr. Sondheim.

The Society for Theatre Research (STR) are pleased to continue their exciting Lecture Programme later this month, which includes free events through to May 2010 all open to the public. Programme highlights include Gregory Doran (Associate Director, Royal Shakespeare Company) discussing directing Shakespeare; award-winning playwright and actor Kwame Kwei-Armah discussing contemporary Black British drama and the Playwright's Relationship to Heritage, Representation and Legacy; and the annual address, which will this year be given by former Evening Standard theatre critic and playwright Nicholas de Jongh.
