Hillbarn Theatre invites you inside Truvy's Beauty Parlor where the lives of six women come together in the comedy play Steel Magnolias. This smash 1987 off-Broadway play and subsequent 1987 Oscar-nominated film version come to the Hillbarn stage October 23rd through November 8th. This is the second show of Hillbarn's 69th season called "Next of Kin," which presents shows involving family.

Join six unforgettable ladies who visit the Chinquapin, Louisiana salon to gossip, chat, share recipes, share tears, and least of all, get their hair done! You'll meet wise cracking salon owner Truvy, sharp-tongued Ouiser, shy and reserved Annelle, the eccentric but sensible Miss Clairee, strong-willed mom M'Lynn and her mother-to-be daughter Shelby. Together they face life's triumphs and tragedies and learn to count on each other in both good and bad times. Don't miss this truly touching story about life and the importance of friendship which the New York Times called "A joy."

Hillbarn Theatre's Steel Magnolias is directed by Ann Kuchins and the cast features well-known Hillbarn actors Mary Price Moore from Burlingame as M'Lynn; Carolyn Ford Compton from San Mateo as Miss Clairee and Heather Galli from Redwood City as Annelle. Newcomers to the Hillbarn Stage include Alexandra Bogorad of Burlingame as Shelby, Damaris Divito from San Jose as Truvy and former Actor's Equity actress Janice Leone from Hayward as Ouiser.

You're invited to join us for our upcoming "Glamour Girls Nights at Steel Magnolias." Stop by before selected performances to meet beauty experts who'll give you a complimentary make-over and share their beauty secrets. These special nights include cosmetic artists from Benefit Cosmetics, Bare Escentuals, The Body Shop, Mary Kay, and more. More "Glamour Girls Nights" are being added! Playwright Robert Harling wrote Steel Magnolias in just 10 days following the surprise death of his sister. The play's 1987 off-Broadway debut was a smash success which led to an even bigger success with the 1989 movie version for which he wrote the screenplay. Robert has written numerous movie hits such as Soapdish (1991), The First Wives Club (1997), and Laws of Attraction (2004). No stranger to the other side of the movie camera, he made his movie directorial debut in 1996 with The Evening Star, the hit sequel to the Oscar-winning Best Picture Terms of Endearment.

Other plays in the Hillbarn's "Next of Kin" season include the Bay Area premier of the swingin' Sinatra holiday musical revue CHRISTMAS, MY WAY (December 4 to December 20), the side-splitter comedy BERMUDA AVENUE TRIANGLE (January 22 to February 7), a CELEBRATION NIGHT, CELEBRATING 70 YEARS sneak peek at the 70th Season (March 11 through March 14), and, to-be-announced in February, a much adored musical about "tradition" and a Jewish businessman with three daughters (May 7 to May 30).

Steel Magnolias runs at the Hillbarn Theatre from Friday, October 23rd through Sunday November 8th. Performances are Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at 8 PM and Sunday at 2 PM. The Friday, October 23rd performance features a fantastic Opening Night Gala, with food provided by Baba Kahn.
