East West Players (EWP), the nation's longest-running professional theater of color in the country and the largest producing organization of Asian American artistic work, is pleased to that announce that the award-winning Broadway musical Mamma Mia! will be part of its 53rd Anniversary Season, Culture Shock, which takes place from Fall 2018 through Summer 2019. With Music and Lyrics by Benny Andersson & Bjorn Ulvaeus, and Book by Catherine Johnson, Mamma Mia! will be directed by Snehal Desai and close out the season. Mamma Mia! begins performances on May 9, 2019 and runs until June 9, 2019, with opening night on May 16, 2019. 

The Beach Boys are bringing good vibrations to the Majestic Theatre (224 E. Houston St) with their newly announced tour, Then & Now, stopping in San Antonio, TX on March 19, 2019 at 8PM. This tour comes as The Beach Boys mark over half a century of making music, continuing to ride the crest of a wave unequalled in America's musical history. Stanley Silverman will be honored by the American Friends of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra (AFIPO), on the occasion of his 80th birthday, at their upcoming Los Angeles gala, October 25, 2018 at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts in Beverly Hills.  The event will honor the life and work of the diverse Grammy and Tony nominated American composer, with a program inclusive of classical and popular music Silverman has composed for both theater and film, along with remarks by special guests. Actors Rob Morrow and Jane the Virgin star Jaime Camil will MC the event. Silverman joins other musical legends who have been honored by the AFIPO at their Los Angeles gala, including multi-Oscar winning composer Hans Zimmer in 2014, and conductor Zubin Mehta in 2017.

Acclaimed director Ava DuVernay's short-form film entitled “August 28: A Day in the Life of a People” will make its national television debut on Tuesday, August 28 at 7 p.m. ET/PT on OWN. Starring Lupita Nyong'o, Angela Bassett, Don Cheadle, Regina King, David Oyelowo, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, André Holland, Michael Ealy and Glynn Turman, DuVernay's 22-minute scripted film uses a robust combination of both documentary and narrative techniques to transport viewers through six stunning historical moments that all actually occurred on the same day in various years.

Los Altos Hills will be alive with The Sound of Music this summer, when multi-award winning Foothill Music Theatre presents the Tony, Grammy, and Academy Award-winning musical. National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene (NYTF) today announced that the highly anticipated American premiere of the Yiddish language Fiddler on the Roof, which began preview PERFORMANCES Off Broadway at the Museum of Jewish Heritage last week, will extend its run for an additional week through September 2 due to demand for tickets. The Press Opening takes place Sunday, July 15 and a VIP gala performance on Monday, July 16. Helmed by Academy Award and Tony Award winner Joel Grey, the acclaimed musical is being presented now for an 9-week limited engagement through September 2.

This summer, the funky Donnie Fritts returns with June: a personal and emotional tribute to his best friend, the late, great Muscle Shoals R&B legend Arthur Alexander. The album was produced by John Paul White and Ben Tanner and was recorded in the evenings at the original location of Muscle Shoals Sound Studio. The album will be released worldwide on August 31 and locally in Florence, AL with a special album release show at 116 E. Mobile on July 27.

The Recording Academy will honor its 2018 Special Merit Awards recipients with 'GRAMMY Salute To Music Legends®,' an awards ceremony and live tribute concert on Saturday, July 14, 2018, at Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. This year's Lifetime Achievement Award honorees are Hal Blaine, Neil Diamond, Emmylou Harris, Louis Jordan, the Meters, Queen, and Tina Turner. Additional Special Merit Awards honorees to be celebrated include Bill Graham, Seymour Stein, and John Williams, who are this year's Trustees Award honorees, and Tony Agnello and Richard Factor, who are the Technical GRAMMY Award recipients. Also being honored is Melissa Salguero, this year's recipient of the Music Educator Award. Led by GRAMMY®-nominated industry icon Greg Phillinganes as musical director, the tribute concert will feature rare performances by honorees and never-seen renditions by those they've inspired.
