The Sylvan Winds announce the final concert of the 2016-17 Season celebrating music, culture, and history. Performing in historic and notable New York City buildings and performance venues, the ensemble creates imaginative and informative programs that complement the environs of each space.   

The Old Globe's revival of Steve Martin's clever and crowd-pleasing comedy hit Picasso at the Lapin Agile is playing February 4 - March 12, 2017, on the Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage in the Old Globe Theatre, part of the Globe's Conrad Prebys Theatre Center. In partnership with Balboa Park institutions, local artists, and scientists, the run of the production will feature a number of special events that explore and engage with the play's legendary figures, Pablo Picasso and Albert Einstein, and amplify the intersection of art and science found onstage.

On Thursday, February 9, Adam Clayton Powell IV and his son, Adam Clayton Powell V, attended the first preview of  'ADAM,' a bio-drama by Peter DeAnda which dramatizes the political life and legacy of the legendary Harlem Congressman Adam Clayton Powell Jr.

Celebrated soprano Julia Migenes returns to L.A. with the world premiere of her newest musical portrait of a great composer. Accompanied on piano by Manuel Arellano and directed by Academy Award-nominated director Peter Medak (The Ruling Class with Peter O' Toole), Migenes' Debussy: His Letters and His Music opens at the Odyssey Theatre on Feb. 10 for a three-week run.

Entering its eighth season in 2016-17, CONTACT!, the Philharmonic's new-music series, will return to National Sawdust in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, for two chamber programs featuring New York-area composers. This season of CONTACT!complements the Philharmonic's 175th anniversary season celebrations, which highlight the Orchestra's rich history of commissioning and premiering important works and salute its hometown of New York City. Esa-Pekka Salonen, who is in the second year of his three-year tenure as the Philharmonic's Marie-Josee Kravis Composer-in-Residence, continues his advisory role on CONTACT!.

Mimi Stern-Wolfe's Downtown Music Productions will appear in a revival of Harold Rome's witty satire Pins and Needles, music direction by Stern-Wolfe, stage direction by Larry Marshall, choreography by Mercedes Ellington,Tuesday October 25, 7 PM, at the Howl Gallery, 6 East 1st Street.  (All proceeds will go to the Actor's Fund and HOWL Help.)  With its critically acclaimed score and lyrics, Pins and Needles,  written in 1937, is a unique call for social justice and equity.

A total of 25 music teachers from 25 cities across 16 states have been announced as semifinalists for the Music Educator Award presented by The Recording Academy®and the GRAMMY Foundation®. Initial nominations were submitted from all 50 states.Nominations and applications for the 2018 Music Educator Award are now open viawww.grammymusicteacher.com.

August Strindberg Repertory Theatre, under the leadership of Robert Greer, is committed to production of his plays in new translations and interpretations that illuminate the plays of Sweden's national playwright, whose work remains as relevant today as when they were written.  The company continues its explorations November 12 to December 3 at Gene Frankel Theatre, 24 Bond Street, presenting a double-bill of two-character plays -- 'Pariah' and 'The Stronger' -- in alternating rep with with Strindberg's Arabian Nights play, 'Abu Casem's Slippers.'

Actresses Louise Dearman and Laura Pitt-Pulford have an impressive musical haul between them, with Louise the first actress to star as both Glinda and Elphaba in Wicked, as well as starring in Guys and Dolls and Kiss Me, Kate, while Laura's recent credits include Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Flowers for Mrs Harris and Oliver! They're now playing conjoined twins Daisy and Violet Hilton in the UK premiere of Side Show, by Dreamgirls composer Henry Krieger and Bill Russell, which opens at Southwark Playhouse next week.

This autumn the highly acclaimed Northern Broadsides and York Theatre Royal join forces to stage a revival of JB Priestley's much-loved and rarely toured classic comedy When We Are Married in the Round at the SJT, Scarborough.

Veteran singer/songwriter Jonathan Edwards will be performing on August 20, 2016 at The Grove at Neumann, Saratoga Springs, NY in support of his new album, Tomorrow's Child. Northern Broadsides and York Theatre Royal will be joining forces in September to stage J.B.Priestley's much loved and rarely toured classic comedy WHEN WE ARE MARRIED. Directed by and featuring Northern Broadsides artistic director Barrie Rutter, the production will open at York Theatre Royal from the 9-24 September and then go on a national tour until 10 December 2016.
