The Public Theater will begin previews for the world premiere of Richard Nelson's new play SWEET AND SAD on Tuesday, September 6. The first show in the 2011-2012 Public Lab season, SWEET AND SAD takes place over Sunday brunch on the 10th Anniversary of 9/11 with a cast that features Jon DeVries, Shuler Hensley, Maryann Plunkett, Laila Robins, Jay O. Sanders and J. Smith-Cameron.

JERUSALEM has extended its limited engagement on Broadway for an additional four weeks. The critically acclaimed, award-winning production will now run through August 21 at the Music Box Theatre (230 West 45th Street).

The Public Theater (Artistic Director Oskar Eustis; Interim Executive Director Joey Parnes) announced additional casting today for KING LEAR, directed by James Macdonald, running October 18 - November 20 in the Newman Theater with an official press opening on November 8. Che Ayende (Duke of Burgundy/Knight/Servant), Craig Bockhorn (Doctor), Michael Crane (Oswald), Herb Foster (Old Man/Curan), Seth Gilliam (Edmund), Michael Izquierdo (King of France), Arian Moayed (Edgar), Kelli O'Hara (Regan), and Richard Topol (Albany) will join the previously announced Enid Graham (Goneril), Michael McKean (Gloucester), John Douglas Thompson (Kent) and Sam Waterston (Lear). Single tickets, priced at $75-$85, go on sale Tuesday, August 9. Member tickets are $40 and are on sale now.

Robert Lindsay and Joanna Lumley will lead the cast in Trevor Nunn's production of James Goldman's The Lion in Winter. The Lion in Winter will run from 4 November - 28 January, with press night on 15 November 2011. The Lion in Winter is produced by the Theatre Royal Haymarket Company. Further casting will be announced shortly.

The Public Theater has announced initial casting today for KING LEAR, directed by James Macdonald this fall. Michael McKean, John Douglas Thompson and Enid Graham will play Gloucester, Kent and Goneril, respectively, joining the previously announced Sam Waterston as King Lear. The Guthrie Theater today announced star casting for its three fall productions: Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing (September 10 - November 5, 2011 on the Wurtele Thrust Stage), Nobel Laureate Seamus Heaney's The Burial At Thebes (September 24 - November 6, 2011 on the McGuire Proscenium Stage) and Obie Award-winning playwright Adam Rapp's new play The Edge of Our Bodies (October 22 - November 20, 2011 in the Dowling Studio).

JERUSALEM, a new play by Jez Butterworth and starring Tony and Olivier Award-winner Mark Rylance opened April 21 at the Music Box Theatre (239 West 45th Street), in a production directed by Ian Rickson. JERUSALEM originally opened at The Royal Court Theatre in July, 2009 with critics praising Jez Butterworth for his beautiful and comic elegy for a disappearing way of life in rural England and actor Mark Rylance, who was lauded as delivering one of the great stage performances of our time. The production played an extended sold out run at the Royal Court, before moving to the Apollo Theatre in the West End in January, 2010, where it received an unprecedented set of five-star reviews from 12 London newspapers.

The Theatre World Awards presentation were held at Jujamcyn's August Wilson Theatre, 245 West 52nd Street (home of Jersey Boys), in an invitation-only ceremony yesterday, June 7, 2011 from 2:00 to 3:45 p.m. Peter Filichia hosted, Barry Keating directed, Mary K. Botosan and Erin Oestreich were the event's producers. There was also a tribute to John Willis, founder of the Theatre World Awards, who died last summer.
