The London Philharmonic Orchestra today announced its 2019/20 season at Southbank Centre's Royal Festival Hall, confirming its reputation for bold, creative and distinctive programming that continues to inspire audiences on a journey of exploration and adventure. The London Philharmonic Orchestra has been performing at the Southbank Centre's Royal Festival Hall since it opened in 1951, becoming Resident Orchestra there in 1992.

Backs Against the Wall: The Howard Thurman Story explores the extraordinary life and legacy of one of the most important religious figures of the 20th century. Born the grandson of slaves, Howard Thurman became the “spiritual foundation” for the Civil Rights Movement, inspiring many of its leaders — including his close friend Martin Luther King, Jr. Featured in the film are a host of scholars, theologians, and Civil Rights pioneers including Congressman John Lewis, the Rev. Jesse Jackson, Vernon Jordan, and more. Written and directed by Martin Doblmeier, the creator of dozens of award-winning films on faith, Backs Against the Wall premieres on the WORLD Channel today, February 8, 2019, 9:00-10:00 p.m. ET (check local listings), and on public television stations throughout the month of February.

The Shakespeare Theatre Association (STA) annual conference came to Prague this year. It has an extensive performance program, crafted by host Guy Roberts and Prague Shakespeare Company, that was open to the public as well as conference attendees. The conference was all about bringing the focus back to the artistic sides of things, as theatre tries to compete in a world filled with on-demand entertainment.

The evening includes a delicious Napa Valley-style feast with traditional haggis (meat or vegetarian), neeps and tatties, and other delights in the candle-lit Gallery of St. Helena's Brasswood Napa Valley. The event is for age 21 and older, and attendees are welcome (but not required) to wear kilts and other traditional attire.

In celebration of 50 years, King Crimson announces 50 Concerts for 2019. The current eight musician line-up will perform 50 concerts across three continents as part of their 2019 Celebration tour.

Today, Friday, January 11, 2019, multiple Grammy Award-nominated violinist Philippe Quint makes his debut on Warner Classics with the release of his latest album Chaplin's Smile, a collection of Charlie Chaplin songs newly arranged for violin and piano. To commemorate the 130th anniversary of Chaplin's birth in 2019, Chaplin's Smile features Philippe Quint joined on two tracks by Quint's friend and frequent collaborator, violinistJoshua Bell. Over more than three years, Quint, in collaboration with arrangers Charles Coleman and Leon Gurvitch went through dozens of songs and soundtracks written by Chaplin to select the songs best suited for violin and piano.

The Recording Academy announced today its Special Merit Awards recipients. This year's Lifetime Achievement Award honorees are Black Sabbath, George Clinton & Parliament-Funkadelic, Billy Eckstine, Donny Hathaway, Julio Iglesias, Sam & Dave, and Dionne Warwick. Lou Adler, Ashford & Simpson, and Johnny Mandel are Trustees Award honorees; and Saul Walker is the Technical GRAMMY® Award recipient. A special award presentation ceremony and concert celebrating the honorees will be held on May 11, 2019, in Los Angeles. Additional details regarding the ceremony will be announced in the coming weeks.

Gooooooo Chipmunks!  Farmers Alley Theatre's famous 'Cabaret Series' is back with the return of our favorite female foursome in the brand-new jukebox musical Marvelous Wonderettes: Dream On.  Performed in our original black box space in downtown Kalamazoo, this family-friendly revue will be playing December 7th-30th at 221 Farmers Alley.  Our cabaret setting includes dessert & coffee with your ticket, and our bar will be open for any adult beverages, beer, wine & hot chocolate as you take in some of the greatest songs from the 60's & 70's.  'Putting on our cabaret show every December is a highlight for us every season,' says Executive Director, Adam Weiner. In the Auditorium Theatre's 129th year of existence, we honored the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at the 13th annual Too Hot to Handel: The Jazz-Gospel Messiah; asked "What's This?" on Halloween with a special screening and the Midwest premiere of Disney in Concert's The Nightmare Before Christmas; and sang along to timeless classics like "December 1963 (Oh, What a Night)" and "Grease" with Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons. We reveled alongside the dancers from Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater; celebrated Ballet Nacional de Cuba's return to Chicago following a 15-year absence; highlighted top local dance companies, including Hubbard Street Dance Chicago and Giordano Dance Chicago; and got transported to Mexico with the colorful music and dance of Ballet Folklorico de Mexico de Amalia Hernandez. We also hosted the 14th  year of our Hearts to Art summer camp, a performing arts camp for young people who have experienced the death of a parent; welcomed over 5,000 students to our Student Matinees; and brought thousands of people from across the city to the theatre through our ADMIT ONE program.

La MaMa is proud to present the Remote Theater Project production of Grey Rock, written and directed by Palestinian artist Amir Nizar Zuabi. This world premiere, which runs January 3-7, 2019, was commissioned by Remote Theater Project and marks the first time a U.S. theater company has commissioned a Palestinian artist to create an original work for American audiences. Grey Rock tells the story of a young Palestinian so enamored with the 1969 American moon landing that he muses, "shouldn't Palestine, the land of prophets, also have a presence on the moon?" Without money or technology, but with the help of his bemused West Bank neighbors, he sets out to build a space shuttle. Knowing full well that he can't succeed with this impossible, but necessary, task, the young man is visited by American heroes who guide him on his mission. Humorous and fantastical, Grey Rock explores the influence that America has had over Palestinian culture.

Arizona Theatre Company (David Ivers, Artistic Director; Billy Russo, Managing Director) brings the iconic musical The Music Man to Tucson's Temple of Music & Art from Dec. 1-30 and the Herberger Theater Center in Phoenix from Jan. 5-27, 2019.

Joni Mitchell, master songsmith and storyteller, eight-time Grammy winner and folk music pioneer is the inspiration for  JONI, Morrison Hotel Gallery's upcoming photography exhibit and sale opening on Friday, November 16th   at the Sunset Marquis Hotel location in Los Angeles, the New York City gallery on Prince Street in SoHo and the gallery in Maui at Mick Fleetwood's General Store and restaurant. The exhibit will be up through December 10th.

The Blind Boys of Alabama have the rare distinction of being recognized around the world as both living legends and modern-day innovators. They are not just gospel singers borrowing from old traditions; the group helped to define those traditions in 20th century and almost single-handedly created a new gospel sound for the 21st. The group will be at the Marcus Center's Wilson Theater at Vogel Hall on Saturday, January 26 at 7:30 pm. Tickets go on sale this Thursday, November 15 at 12:00 pm.
