Today, Friday, January 11, 2019, multiple Grammy Award-nominated violinist Philippe Quint makes his debut on Warner Classics with the release of his latest album Chaplin's Smile, a collection of Charlie Chaplin songs newly arranged for violin and piano. To commemorate the 130th anniversary of Chaplin's birth in 2019, Chaplin's Smile features Philippe Quint joined on two tracks by Quint's friend and frequent collaborator, violinistJoshua Bell. Over more than three years, Quint, in collaboration with arrangers Charles Coleman and Leon Gurvitch went through dozens of songs and soundtracks written by Chaplin to select the songs best suited for violin and piano.

On Friday, January 25, 2019, NapaShakes celebrates the birthday of Scotland's Bard: Robert Burns, and the music, food and culture of Scotland, with its first ever Burns Night Supper. Guests will savor the words of Scotland's greatest poet (and a bit of Shakespeare's Macbeth) accompanied by bagpipes and a lively Ceilidh band, plus engaging performances by two acclaimed actors from Britain and Broadway: Jane Carr and Victor Talmadge. The evening includes a delicious Napa Valley-style feast with traditional haggis (meat or vegetarian), neeps and tatties, and other delights in the candle-lit Gallery of St. Helena's Brasswood Napa Valley. The event is for age 21 and older, and attendees are welcome (but not required) to wear kilts and other traditional attire.

The Recording Academy announced today its Special Merit Awards recipients. This year's Lifetime Achievement Award honorees are Black Sabbath, George Clinton & Parliament-Funkadelic, Billy Eckstine, Donny Hathaway, Julio Iglesias, Sam & Dave, and Dionne Warwick. Lou Adler, Ashford & Simpson, and Johnny Mandel are Trustees Award honorees; and Saul Walker is the Technical GRAMMY® Award recipient. A special award presentation ceremony and concert celebrating the honorees will be held on May 11, 2019, in Los Angeles. Additional details regarding the ceremony will be announced in the coming weeks.

Gooooooo Chipmunks!  Farmers Alley Theatre's famous 'Cabaret Series' is back with the return of our favorite female foursome in the brand-new jukebox musical Marvelous Wonderettes: Dream On.  Performed in our original black box space in downtown Kalamazoo, this family-friendly revue will be playing December 7th-30th at 221 Farmers Alley.  Our cabaret setting includes dessert & coffee with your ticket, and our bar will be open for any adult beverages, beer, wine & hot chocolate as you take in some of the greatest songs from the 60's & 70's.  'Putting on our cabaret show every December is a highlight for us every season,' says Executive Director, Adam Weiner. In the Auditorium Theatre's 129th year of existence, we honored the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at the 13th annual Too Hot to Handel: The Jazz-Gospel Messiah; asked "What's This?" on Halloween with a special screening and the Midwest premiere of Disney in Concert's The Nightmare Before Christmas; and sang along to timeless classics like "December 1963 (Oh, What a Night)" and "Grease" with Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons. We reveled alongside the dancers from Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater; celebrated Ballet Nacional de Cuba's return to Chicago following a 15-year absence; highlighted top local dance companies, including Hubbard Street Dance Chicago and Giordano Dance Chicago; and got transported to Mexico with the colorful music and dance of Ballet Folklorico de Mexico de Amalia Hernandez. We also hosted the 14th  year of our Hearts to Art summer camp, a performing arts camp for young people who have experienced the death of a parent; welcomed over 5,000 students to our Student Matinees; and brought thousands of people from across the city to the theatre through our ADMIT ONE program.

La MaMa is proud to present the Remote Theater Project production of Grey Rock, written and directed by Palestinian artist Amir Nizar Zuabi. This world premiere, which runs January 3-7, 2019, was commissioned by Remote Theater Project and marks the first time a U.S. theater company has commissioned a Palestinian artist to create an original work for American audiences. Grey Rock tells the story of a young Palestinian so enamored with the 1969 American moon landing that he muses, "shouldn't Palestine, the land of prophets, also have a presence on the moon?" Without money or technology, but with the help of his bemused West Bank neighbors, he sets out to build a space shuttle. Knowing full well that he can't succeed with this impossible, but necessary, task, the young man is visited by American heroes who guide him on his mission. Humorous and fantastical, Grey Rock explores the influence that America has had over Palestinian culture.

Joni Mitchell, master songsmith and storyteller, eight-time Grammy winner and folk music pioneer is the inspiration for  JONI, Morrison Hotel Gallery's upcoming photography exhibit and sale opening on Friday, November 16th   at the Sunset Marquis Hotel location in Los Angeles, the New York City gallery on Prince Street in SoHo and the gallery in Maui at Mick Fleetwood's General Store and restaurant. The exhibit will be up through December 10th.

The Blind Boys of Alabama have the rare distinction of being recognized around the world as both living legends and modern-day innovators. They are not just gospel singers borrowing from old traditions; the group helped to define those traditions in 20th century and almost single-handedly created a new gospel sound for the 21st. LA Stage Alliance Nominated Actress and New Times Winner, Best Actress Susan Claassen stars in the Bay Area premiere of "A Conversation With Edith Head" at Pear Theatre from December 7 through 16. The internationally acclaimed show, based on EDITH HEAD'S HOLLYWOOD by Edith Head and Paddy Calistro, is a feast of delicious behind-the-scenes stories about Hollywood's greatest stars that provide an intimate portrait of Hollywood's legendary costume designer. "A Conversation With Edith Head" previews on December 6, with press and Opening Night on Friday, December 7 (followed by a champagne gala). Widely known as the godfather of music photography, the late Jim Marshall maintained a 50-year career that resulted in more than 500 album covers, an abundance of magazine covers, and some of the most celebrated images in blues, jazz, country, and rock and roll, including those from Johnny Cash's notable Folsom and San Quentin prison concerts. To showcase these powerful snapshots of a legendary musician by a legendary photographer, the GRAMMY Museum® proudly presents The Prison Concerts: Folsom And San Quentin (Jim Marshall's Photographs Of Johnny Cash), a new exhibit showcasing Marshall's photos from Cash's historic prison concerts in 1968 and 1969 featured in the art book Johnny Cash At Folsom & San Quentin. The exhibit will open on Oct. 23, when Amelia Davis, Jim Marshall's longtime assistant and the sole beneficiary of his estate; John Carter Cash, Johnny Cash's son; and Scott Bomar, author of Johnny Cash At Folsom & San Quentin; will discuss the stories behind these photographs at the Clive Davis Theater as part of the Museum's An Evening With program moderated by GRAMMY Museum Artistic Director Scott Goldman. The exhibit will run through February 2019.

Now a singular presence in the ballet world, the Dance Theatre of Harlem company tours nationally and internationally, presenting a powerful vision for ballet in the 21st century.
