Regina Taylor, HBO & More to be Honored at Chicago International Television Awards

Cinema/Chicago and the Chicago International Film Festival honor the best in television programming and commercials at the 52nd Chicago International Television Awards April 20, 2016. Capping off a newly programmed three-day event of special screenings and panel discussions celebrating the importance and excellence in work being created for television, the annual awards ceremony will pay special tribute to some of the most respected, acclaimed personalities and entities working in television today. Receiving special awards this year are Director, Playwright and Emmy Award-Winning Actor Regina Taylor; Entertainment Reporter Janet Davies; Entertainment Reporter Bill Zwecker; and HBO. The celebratory evening, hosted by WGN's Dan Ponce and Robin Robinson, begins at 6 p.m. with a cocktail reception at Lucky Strike Lounge (322 E. Illinois St.) followed by the Awards Ceremony at 7:30 p.m.

Originally staged in 1984, The Importance remains the only musical adaptation of Oscar Wilde's The Importance of Being Earnest to run in London. After a limited run here, the production found a new lease of life in Peterborough two years later under a different title, Born in a Handbag. This recording has been a labour of love with over twenty years in production and is being released by Stage Door Records at the end of this month.

Sarasota, FL – Sarasota Opera is proud to announce the launch of its new website,http://www.verdicycle.org/, dedicated to the company's 28-year Verdi Cycle. Started in 1989 with a production of Verdi's Rigoletto, The Verdi Cycle is the company's commitment to perform all the works of Giuseppe Verdi, both operatic and non-operatic, intended for performance. The Verdi Cycle is due to be completed at the close of the company's 2016 Winter Festival Season on March 20, 2016, making Sarasota Opera the only company in the world to have performed every note of Giuseppe Verdi.

Sacha Wares Returns To Almeida Theatre to Direct World Premiere of BOY, April 5

Sacha Wares will be returning to Almeida Theatre to direct the world premiere of Leo Butler's new play Boy, after her directorial success with the critically acclaimed production, Game, by Mike Bartlett, in 2015.  Boy will run at the Almeida Theatre from 5 April until 28 May 2016, with press night on 12 April 2016. Director Sacha Wares is joined by a formidable creative team, including two powerhouse contemporary designers, Miriam Buether for set design (Wild Swans, Sucker Punch, My Child, Generations), who worked with Sacha on Game at the Almeida in 2015, and Ultz for costume (Jerusalem, Hobson's Choice, Fallout, Pied Pier), who will be collaborating with Miriam, on design, for the very first time. Further creative credits include movement by Leon Baugh, lighting by Jack Knowles and sound by Gareth Fry.

Canada's Oldest Working Actor Bill Needles Dies at 97

It is with sadness that the Stratford Festival bids farewell to the man who was Canada's oldest working actor. William Needles died January 12, at the age of 97, surrounded by his family, at a hospice in Alliston, Ontario. Just days earlier, he had left his adopted hometown of Stratford, after suffering a massive heart attack on December 19.
