BAFTA has unveiled this year's selection of its EE Rising Star Award, which recognizes outstanding achievement by upcoming actors, and is the only award voted for solely by the public.

Casting was today confirmed for the return of Bristol Old Vic's acclaimed production, Pink Mist, which kicks off a national tour from Bristol Old Vic on 23 January.  

Akvavit Theatre, Chicago's premier Nordic Theatre Company, will launch 2017 with new artistic leadership and an expanded ensemble. Five year Akvavit veterans Kirstin Franklin and Breahan Pautsch will serve as the company's new Co-Artistic Directors, succeeding Artistic Director Chad Eric Bergman and Managing Artistic Director Bergen Anderson, who have served since 2009. Bergman and Anderson will remain with Akvavit as Founders and as part of the original company, which still includes Mark Litwicki and Matthew Isler. Additionally, Akvavit welcomes eight new Associate company members: Richard Gilbert, Joe Giovannetti, Sarah Giovannetti, Nigel Harsch, Paulette Hicks, Micah Kronlokken, Julie Mitre and Amber Robinson. 

Folger Theatre continues its celebrated 25th anniversary season with As You Like It, one of Shakespeare's most beloved comedies. Directed by Gaye Taylor Upchurch, this classic tale filled with love, laughter, and mistaken identity features original songs composed by Heather Christian and dances by Alexandra Beller. As You Like It is on stage from January 24 through March 5, 2017.

McCarter Theatre Center is starting the New Year with a fresh look at two of literature's most enigmatic and dynamic characters. From January 13 - February 12, the celebrated New York theater company, Bedlam, makes its McCarter Theatre Center debut with their critically- acclaimed stripped down productions of William Shakespeare's Hamlet and George Bernard Shaw's Saint Joan, in rotating repertory.

In what has become an annual ritual, a total of 32 established and emerging composers, lyricists, and librettists will converge on the Goodspeed campus from mid-January through mid-February 2017 to participate in the Johnny Mercer Foundation Writers Colony at Goodspeed Musicals. The writing teams, representing 18 new musicals, will populate the campus, creating a truly exciting environment for discovery and inspiration.

Roundabout Theatre Company has announced the complete cast of Roundabout Underground alumni playwright Steven Levenson's (The Unavoidable Disappearance of Tom Durnin; Dear Evan Hansen) new play, If I Forget, directed by Daniel Sullivan.

Hasan Minhaj: Homecoming King, is the theatrical debut of humorist and The Daily Showcorrespondent Hasan Minhaj. Homecoming King, the story of the 'New Brown America,' is based on true events from Minhaj's first generation Indian-American experience. Navigating between two worlds, it follows Minhaj's arrival in the US, meeting his sister, interracial love, racism, bullying, and his family's quest to achieve the elusive American Dream. The show plays the City Theatre today, December 9 at 7:30 p.m.

Druid Theatre will remount Martin McDonagh's sensational, award-winning dark comedy, The Beauty Queen of Leenane, at BAM's Harvey Theater (651 Fulton St.) this winter.

The Joyce Theater Foundation, Inc. (Linda Shelton, Executive Director), will present the long-awaited NYC return of one of the world's most renowned ballet companies, The Joffrey Ballet, performing the New York premiere of its critically acclaimed production of Krzysztof Pastor's majestic Romeo & Juliet at Lincoln Center's David H. Koch Theater from March 29 - April 2.

Comedian, actor, director and producer Martin Lawrence returns with his first stand-up tour in four years - DOIN' TIME: UNCUT LIVE - playing Newark's Prudential Center in his only area performance on Sunday, December 11 at 8 p.m. Lawrence has made a triumphant homecoming to the stand-up stage, wowing audiences with his signature style of hilarious stories, social commentary and more. 

Today Shoreditch Town Hall announces an immersive double-bill of Philip Ridley plays, including the world premiere of Killer and a new production of Ridley's contemporary classic The Pitchfork Disney, his first stage play which premiered in 1991. The productions will both be directed by Jamie Lloyd and run in 'The Ditch' basement spaces of Shoreditch Town Hall in spring 2017.

Steep Theatre will present the first professional U.S. production of Tony nominee and Olivier Award-winning playwright Mike Bartlett's Earthquakes in London, opening January 26, 2017. Steep's production opens on the heels of another Chicago production of this enormously exciting playwright's work, the critically-acclaimed King Charles III at Chicago Shakespeare Theatre. Earthquakes will be helmed by one of Chicago's most exciting talents, Steep Ensemble Member and Jeff Award-winning director Jonathan Berry.  Berry recently directed Steppenwolf Theatre's Constellations, and, over the years, has consistently produced some of Steep's most notable shows, including Season 15's Posh by Laura Wade, which won the Non-Equity Jeff Award for Best Ensemble, and was nominated for Best Director and Best Production.
