The New Black Fest and The Lark, two theater organizations dedicated to celebrating and advocating for extraordinary and diverse stories, have announced the third annual The New Black Fest at The Lark.

Lauren Weedman, who took the city by storm with The People's Republic of Portland, is back once again for the world premiere of her first music-based production,Lauren Weedman Doesn't Live Here Anymore. The Armory's Associate Artistic Director Rose Riordan will direct the production. Tim Sonnefeld will provide music direction and join Weedman on stage to play guitar, along with Ji Tanzer on drums. The production will mark Weedman's debut on The Armory's U.S. Bank Main Stage. Lauren Weedman Doesn't Live Here Anymore begins preview performances on March 16; the opening night/press night is March 24; and regular performances run through April 30.

On Tuesday, March 14, celebrated author Michael Finkel (True Story: Murder, Memoir, Mea, a 2015 major motion picture) comes to town with his latest work, THE STRANGER IN THE WOODS: The Extraordinary Story of the Last True Hermit. Finkel will discuss one of this generation's remarkable news stories - the true tale of a hermit who lived alone in a tent in the Maine woods for twenty-seven years.

Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts announced today its second class of Emerging Artists, recognizing diverse talents, from a visionary filmmaker to world-class musicians to a singer-songwriter currently starring on Broadway.

David Mirvish will present the national tour of Sam Mendes (Spectre, American Beauty) and Rob Marshall's (Into the Woods and Chicago, the films) Tony Award-winning production of CABARET. CABARET will play a strictly one-week engagement, February 14 - 19 at the Princess of Wales Theatre.

This March, the Royal Scottish National Orchestra will embark upon its first trip to the United States in more than 35 years.  The RSNO, together with Music Director Peter Oundjian and violinist Nicola Benedetti will perform throughout the state of Florida with stops in Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach, Vero Beach, Gainesville, Fort Myers, Sarasota and Daytona Beach.

La Jolla Playhouse announces the world premiere of Kill Local, by UC San Diego MFA playwriting graduate Mat Smart, directed by Jackson Gay (Kingdom City), as part of its 2017/2018 season, to run in August, 2017 in the Sheila and Hughes Potiker Theatre.

Roundabout Theatre Company has announced new casting for the national tour of Sam Mendes (Spectre, American Beauty) and Rob Marshall's (Into the Woods and Chicago, the films) Tony Award-winning production of CABARET.

Steep Theatre will present the first professional U.S. production of Tony nominee and Olivier Award-winning playwright Mike Bartlett's Earthquakes in London, opening January 26, 2017. Steep's production opens on the heels of another Chicago production of this enormously exciting playwright's work, the critically-acclaimed King Charles III at Chicago Shakespeare Theatre. Earthquakes will be helmed by one of Chicago's most exciting talents, Steep Ensemble Member and Jeff Award-winning director Jonathan Berry.  Berry recently directed Steppenwolf Theatre's Constellations, and, over the years, has consistently produced some of Steep's most notable shows, including Season 15's Posh by Laura Wade, which won the Non-Equity Jeff Award for Best Ensemble, and was nominated for Best Director and Best Production. 

Highly regarded as one of Harold Pinter's masterpieces, and winner of the 1979 Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Play, Betrayal has enjoyed several successful productions and revivals around the world since its opening in London in 1978.

Folger Theatre continues its celebrated 25th anniversary season with As You Like It, one of Shakespeare's most beloved comedies. Directed by Gaye Taylor Upchurch, this classic tale filled with love, laughter, and mistaken identity features original songs composed by Heather Christian and dances by Alexandra Beller. As You Like It is on stage from January 24 through March 5, 2017.

The Bush Theatre will reopen after a year-long £4.3m redevelopment, the largest capital project in the theatre's history, with a bold new season kicked off by the European Premiere of Guards at the Taj by Pulitzer Prize finalist Rajiv Joseph, directed by Jamie Lloyd (from 7 April). A brand new Studio space opens with the premiere of Barney Norris play While We're Here directed by Alice Hamilton (from 26 April).

Betrayal will be the third production of Capital Stage's 2016-17 Season: Love + War, and will run from January 25 - February 26, 2017 with a Press Opening on Saturday, January 28, 2017 at 8pm.

Milwaukee Repertory Theater  presents the Pulitzer Prize-winning play Disgraced, written by one of the most in-demand playwrights of today Rep Associate Artist Ayad Akhtar in the Quadracci Powerhouse beginning January 17 through February 12.  According to American Theater Magazine, Disgraced was the most produced play around the country in the 2015/16 Season, and now for the first time it makes a homecoming to Milwaukee, the hometown of playwright Ayad Akhtar.

PBS President and CEO Paula A. Kerger announced today at the Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour that BEYOND A YEAR IN SPACE, a follow-up documentary to 2016's A YEAR IN SPACE special, is scheduled to premiere on PBS in November 2017

McCarter Theatre Center is starting the New Year with a fresh look at two of literature's most enigmatic and dynamic characters. From January 13 - February 12, the celebrated New York theater company, Bedlam, makes its McCarter Theatre Center debut with their critically- acclaimed stripped down productions of William Shakespeare's Hamlet and George Bernard Shaw's Saint Joan, in rotating repertory.
