Internationally renowned concert organist and recording artist Gail Archer releases her seventh solo album with The Muse's Voice: A Celebration of Women Composers performed on the Gabe M. Wiener Organ (Casavant, 2002) at New York City's Central Synagogue. On Sunday, January 12, 2014, Long Beach Opera (LBO) and the Museum of African American Art come together for an afternoon devoted to the Harlem Renaissance. As a lead-in to LBO's production of Duke Ellington's rarely performed opera Queenie Pie, "Duke and the Renaissance" will explore the rich variety of art, music and literature that came out of 1920s-1930s Harlem. Highlights include a guided tour of the museum, an all-Ellington live performance, bubbly drinks and pie (what else?) in a memorable tribute to an American icon and Harlem's era of cultural brilliance.

The University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) is delighted to announce its spring schedule of major events. The largest single source of performing arts events in the state of Ohio, CCM presents nearly 150 major public performances from Jan. 12 through May 18, ranging from faculty and guest artist concerts to fully supported opera, musical theatre, drama and dance productions.

Artistic Director Molly Smith tackles a unique, in-the-round staging of Bertolt Brecht's powerhouse anti-war play Mother Courage and Her Children at Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater. Iconic stage and screen actress and Academy Award nominee Kathleen Turner returns to Arena Stage following her sold-out run of Red Hot Patriot: The Kick-Ass Wit of Molly Ivins to make her professional singing debut as the tough-as-nails matriarch Mother Courage-a single mother determined to keep her family alive and her business afloat during war. Using the David Hare translation, the show fuses politics and satire to paint an unforgettable and provocative portrait of war, incorporating more than 10 pieces of original music composed in a rollicking, gypsy-punk style and performed by cast members doubling as musicians. Mother Courage and Her Children runs January 31-March 9, 2014 in the Fichandler Stage.

Music Director Alan Gilbert will conduct the New York Philharmonic in a program of Mozart's three final symphonies - Nos. 39, 40, and 41, Jupiter - tonight, November 29, 2013, at 8:00 p.m. and Saturday, November 30 at 8:00 p.m. Classical 105.9 FM WQXR in New York will broadcast the November 30 concert live at 8:00 p.m. as part of a month-long festival on the music and life of Mozart.

In the New York Philharmonic's concerts this week celebrating the centennial of English composer, conductor, and pianist Benjamin Britten, conducted by Music Director Alan Gilbert, tenors Dominic Armstrong, Anthony Dean Griffey, and Michael Slattery will replace Paul Appleby, who has withdrawn due to illness. On November 21-22, 2013, Michael Slattery will make his Philharmonic debut in Britten's Serenade for Tenor, Horn, and Strings, and tenor Dominic Armstrong will make his Philharmonic debut in Britten's Spring Symphony. The concert on November 23 will feature tenor Anthony Dean Griffey in both works, and he will sing the Serenade on November 26 on a program that also includes Mozart's Symphonies Nos. 39 and 41, Jupiter.

On rare occasions, a musician will perform with such force and spirit that you sit up straighter, lean a little closer and in an instant realize that something extraordinary is happening. Moldovan violinist Patricia Kopatchinskaja is that kind of grab-your-soul performer. She makes her major US debut with conductor Benjamin Zander leading the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra (www.bostonphil.org) tonight, November 21.

DISASTER! is a musical based on 1970's disaster movies with a score consisting of 1970's pop, rock and disco hit songs.
